Now I am not a regular at going out and laying in the sun, but today was just so beautiful out that I could not help it
But after about 45 minutes I decided that it was time to head in, and I also noticed that I was completely exhausted. I had just been laying down, but I felt like I had done a full workout. I have heard that the sun drains your energy, but could simply tanning also be burning calories? Because it sure feels like it. Now I could be totally wrong here, but it was just something I thought of

You were burning calories while tanning...BUT, you burn calories while sleeping too, lol. I'm not sure if tanning burns more calories or not! If it does, i'd sure like to know

anything and everything you do can allow you to burn calories but what you would burn from just laying out wouldnt be that much. Its just like going into a sauna. You are sweating off the water weight I would think. But hey; take it where you can get it. And its a win win b/c you lose a little and get that cute tan while you are at it.

you weren't burning any calories other than what your bodily functions required so if you're wondering if tanning was like working out think again. too bad it wasn't that easy.

Your not burning any excess calories that I know but it is pretty hard on you body to take that much sun. I would recommend never tanning. It is SO bad for you. I understand wanting to lay ing the sun on a nice day but if you do put sunscreen on. It's really no worth your life.

Ok done with my little rant.

tanning and saunas are two totally different things. In a sauna you could expect to sweat off some water. While tanning you do not sweat nearly as much as a sauna maybe not even at all. Just a thought.

Tanning, do not get me started! You are destroying your skin, the largest organ on your body! you are aging your skin by the minute when you do it! If you love leathery wrinkled deep crevasses in your face and neck, go for it. Not to mention the Skin Cancer risk! If you must tan, spray it on. Ask any dermatologist, or Plastic surgeon, Tanning is a big no! use 70 spf and protect your skin, stop baking it!

I think that the exhaustion you felt might have come from dehydration. Keep in mind that it doesn't take a burn to damage your skin....a tan is a form of damage too! You are working so hard on your health, so keep up the good work and use some sunscreen! (My mother works in a surgeon's office and she's seen people of all ages come in with melanoma from repeated sun exposure).
  • I would NEVER lay out in the sun and tan! I've never in my life tanned outside. Many a summer I was white as a sheet until I discovered sunless tanners. I'm going to be 31 this month and still get people telling my I look 22. I do attribute that to never going in the sun without a high numbered sunblock!

Take care of yourself, your skin and your life! It's not worth it for a little color. You aren't losing any calories that way just workout, you'll feel so much better after!
