Melatonin doses

Hi everyone!
I've finally jumped on the melatonin bandwagon, and I'm still kind trying to figure out if it's working/going to work.
I bought 3mg from Meijer a couple of weeks ago, and the following day, after my husband said he wanted to try it, I found a 5mg bottle at Target. The pharmacist at Target said that it can take up to two weeks for my body to start getting the benefits of melatonin at night, so don't be impatient. I've been taking 2 of the 3mg tablets every night for almost two weeks, and I don't really feel any different at bed time, and my husband said he doesn't either. But we feel a bit more rested in the mornings when we wake up, and we don't have as much of a "Broken sleep" as we used to. Should I feel a tired feeling, or relaxed after taking it? I guess I'm not really sure of how I should feel on the supplement.
My question is that I'm 198 (today), and my hubby is 304. Are these doses high enough, or are our bodies just not used to the melatonin?
Thanks for reading and helping me!

I use the GNC under the tongue 1mg tabs. Pretty much helps me fall asleep in about 10-15 min. The stuff you swallow doesnt do a damn thing for me. From my understanding even 1mg is more than our body normally will ever produce. Think it has something to do with how it is absorbed. Would have to do more research, I only know what works for me.0

I usually take 2 of the 3mg pills myself at night. It doesn't happen every night, but many nights I do feel a bit sleepy or more relaxed about a half hour after I take it.0

I do, but I take heavy doses due to my severe insomnia (notice the time, its late).
It works for me but I take 10 mg, not 6. I do not recommend taking anymore then you are now without consulting a pharmacist or doctor.
It normally just knocks me out 20 min after I took it and I wake up 9 hours later, fully rested and alert. I first get very relaxed, then lay in bed and next thing I know, its morning.
I wish you luck on your search, maybe some tea will help?
EDIT: wrote the wrong dosage, sorry!0 -
I take melatonin. Sometimes my schedule is kind of crazy and when I feel pressure to fall asleep I just don't. Then I get the joy of getting through my day, or several days, on just a few hours of sleep.
I started with the 3 mg of melatonin. It seemed to be hit or miss on if it worked or not. When that package was out I grabbed a bottle at walmart. I took one and within about 15 mins I felt like I had a few glasses of wine. I was asleep soon after that and slept solid until I heard my alarm go off. I thought it was kind of weird since I hadn't had that experience before. I checked the bottle....10 mg. Oops. Well. That's what I use now. I only take it when I know I "need" to fall asleep. I'm not sure if this answers your question or not...just sharing that I take 10 mgs and weigh about 208 right now.0 -
If you're taking birth control, talk to your doctor. Melatonin can interact with it.0

Things that I've read just say that it can increase the melatonin that the body already makes, but it doesn't interfere with birth control........? I'll have to ask a pharmacist on this. Thanks!0 -
i take 1mg melatonin, usually i take 2-3 depending how awake i am. it takes about 20 minutes for it to kick in so i take it before i start my bedtime routine, so that by the time i'm ready for bed it's kicking it. for me i feel both relaxed and tired.0

I take 5 or 6mg when I have to sleep during the day. I have to double check the dose. It works for me. I don't wake with a groggy feeling. Just a little extra help to drift off to sleep.0

If I take on 3mg I wake up 2-4 hours later and feel like I slept a whole night. I do that occasionally, when I need to get a lot done. I don't think everyone has the effect, but I stumbled on to. To actually sleep I have to take 2-3 3mg tabs.0
