I've always had issues with breakfast since i can remember... which is probably a contributor as to why I've been overweight or chubby most of my life. When I wake up in the morning, I am always nauseated and have trouble even brushing my teeth. How can I get past this? Does anyone know of anything I can take to stop this so I can eat breakfast like a normal person?

I don't eat breakfast first thing, and never have. I get up at 6, and I eat breakfast at 8:30 when I get to work. It helps to push it a little farther into the day, but still be "breakfasty"

I'm just like you. Ever since I was young (maybe.... 7?) I just couldn't eat breakfast. Even now, I still can't really do it. My breakfast is more like a brunch. The smell of food in the morning just completely makes me ill and brushing my teeth is a completely chore in and of itself. I've started doing very lite breakfasts (I've replaced two meals a day with Total Lean shakes, fruit, and almonds). I can manage to drink breakfast in the morning, but not eat it.

You may talk to a dietitian about that, they may have a solution.

Great to hear I'm not alone. Maybe I should push my breakfast out a bit, I am also up at 6 and try to be at work by 730. I was doing Body By Vi shakes in the morning and they weren't nearly as bad as trying to actually eat... Maybe I should stick to those and just do it later in the morning. Thanks!!!

I usually don't eat breakfast for two hours . These days I have been drinking a protein shake with fruit in it.

I once heard a doctor say that people who can't eat breakfast ate too much the night before.

At first I thought it was absurd; but since I was a non-breakfast person too, I thought I'd try cutting out any evening eating and see if it helped.

    Worked like a charm. :-)

This is really interesting since I am a pretty good night snacker... I'm gonna have to give that one a try. THANKS!!!

There's no reason to eat breakfast if you don't want it.

No, your metabolism works all the time. It does not need to be jumpstarted. Meal timing does not matter to weight loss.

most doctors and dieticians would agree that breakfast is important. not for metabolism benefits necessarily, but for nutrient absorption and energy levels. especially if you exercise.
unless you sit on your *kitten* all morning i guess.

I normally eat breakfast (or when i was on night shift as soon as i woke up.) today...i am having trouble...just don't feel like eating...since i am about to walk 5 miles...i decided to at least eat a half a cup of brown rice before i go so i don't lose energy.

Is it breakfast foods...or are you just not hungry...maybe try making something you know you like ...and when you sit down to eat it you will be able to. Have a sandwich or crackers and cheese.

My favorite dinners have always been breakfast for dinner!

Maybe try to wait an hour or two after waking up.....just eat lunch a little later?

Breakfast is extremely important. Probably as important as drinking enough water. I was never a big breakfast eater, but when I started this new lifestyle I incorporated a packet of weight control oatmeal with my morning coffee at work and it helps me focus better in the morning. I'd say stick with these shakes if that works for you. Just so you get some protein in to start your day. That doesn't have to mean eating.

Just found this and thought it was intresting...

Many of us tend to skip breakfast and oftentimes take for granted the benefits it offers us. Not just breakfast a first source of energy of the day, but it is important to maintain your calorie level. You should take proper nutrition and never forget that the tag line that breakfast is important to weight loss indeed works. In fact, even when you try to control your calorie level, you should not go below the regular calorie intake, otherwise, you would be not be able to provide your body with the right nutrition that it needs to carry out its regular functions.

Studies show advantages of breakfast and prove that breakfast important to weight loss is a fact that is scientifically proven. Skipping breakfast makes your metabolic rate slow down and your blood sugar to drop. As a result of this, you become hungry and have less energy. This causes you to take impulsively snacks in the morning, often on high-fat sweets like chocolate bars, candies, or wafers. Or you may end up eating extra servings or bigger portions at lunch or dinner. By eating breakfast, you will feel nourished and satisfied making you avoid overeating for the rest of the day.

The time of day for calories consumed does not matter, you can not eat all day and eat ALL of your daily calories in one sitting if you wish..... you will still lose weight.

Jump starting metabolism has been proven to NOT be true, same with the 6 small meals a day myth....

The only benefit to that way of eating is keeping blood sugars level and helps prevent you from binging or over eating later in the day when you are starving... but you do not need to eat 3 or 6 meals a day.....

Calories in vs. calories out.... at 6am or 9pm or 2am......does NOT matter !

Definitely not that I don't like breakfast foods. I love food!!! (That's how I got to be this way). lol. I wake up at 6am, and I'm sick to my stomach for at least an hour or two. I have been like this for sooooo many years. It just takes me a while to want to eat something. I gag while I'm brushing my teeth every day because opening my mouth is difficult. Can't really explain it.

I agree. As long as you feel good, shift your eating to a later time in the day. A lot of people do that as a form of Intermittent Fasting.

If breakfast foods are the trouble, switch it up....eat lunch foods or left over dinner foods.....if the toothpaste makes you ill, brush with mouthwash and then brush again later after your body has woke up with toothpaste, say morning break....you will still have fresh breat and you have brushed off the ick with your toothbrush and mouthwash....just a thought.....

Studies do NOT show metabolic slow down after only 16 hrs of fasting.... ( 9pm12 noon) you have to fast for over 48hrs before a drop in metabolism can be recorded.....

Once again, eating breakfast is NOT mandatory....

I don't like breakfast either. Unless I can make it at home,I don't want to eat it. So I'll make a protein shake to drink in the morning. It gets me my calories and nutrients to start the day without "eating".

I will also carry fruit as a morning snack if I am really not hungry in the morning.

It isn't about the food choices for breakfast. : ) I think it's just the time of day. By 10:00 I feel normal and am able to eat normally... But I feel like I will screw up my day if my first meal is at 10am.

I LOVE breakfast, just not first thing in the morning! I am trying to have a SlimFast shake in the morning while I am getting ready for work and then eat some fruit or some type of snack about 9 or 10. This is working out great so far. Good luck & feel free to add me as a friend if you want!

Not to get toooooooooo personal here, but I did not see this mentioned in the posts anywhere, yes I did look through a bunch of them....ARE you on Birth Control Pills? If you take them at night they can make you wake up in the mornin feeling very light head and any movement makes you feel ill while standing.... I may be way off base asking, but this use to be the case for me when I took them.....just a thought.....

I actually use NuvaRing - Stays in all the time, so I don't think that's my issue. Plus it has been happening for sooooo many years. I remember talking to my grandma about it when I was little because she had the same problem. Not sure what it is... Someone suggested that it's from eating too much the night before. I am going to test this theory because I'm a night snacker.
