giving up on the cow

I suffer from constipation and have already switched white for brown so now I am going to give up on the cow, so no dairy and see how this works. Today I have bought goats milk and I honestly don't taste the difference between these milks. I will try goats cheese this week on some rocket and rye. I eat prunes too and have plenty of fibre but I am getting to the point where it is really frustrating not having regular bm when I drink loads of water and eat healthy, exercise 90 min. daily and the scales don't budge :grumble:
My doctor gave me tablets which work but I am frightened it might make my bowels lazy so now going about it on my own. Anybody got tips for me?
Thanks in advance,
Helen

I am a big fan of "the cow", but my sister swears by rice milk and soy milk products. Just an idea you might want to try.0

That's the thing Keppick I just love the cow but I fear that the cow doesn't love me I will see if the goat likes me otherwise I will go on to soy products (I will do this one last though because I am scared it won't taste as good in my daily brew and porridge) I don't think we can get rice milk here in Wales, I will search next time I visit a big supermarket. Thanks :happy:0

My son has also suffered from constipation (he's allergic to dairy and wheat, so that wasn't the problem) and we were giving him prunes to help. His doctor told us to try "super food" powder mix. It's all fruits and veggies...or at least most of them are. You can find some at the health food stores or online. His is fruit punch flavored and I mix it with juice or in his oatmeal. He loves it, and it keeps him regular. You might try that. I hope that helps!

Lactose is found in goat's milk as well....so switching from cow's milk to goat's milk isn't going to help any.0

Hi Mechanicmom, I will try that... it looks great
songbyrdsweet, apparently goats milk is easier to digest than cows milk. I already know I am not lactose intollerant. Thanks for your reply though :flowerforyou:0 -
Hmmm, no Trader Joe's or Whole Foods Markets in Wales.... that makes things difficult. Can you order any of this stuff on line with out paying through the nose?0

I will do a search, thank you ever so much, I have read about one and it sounds really great. :happy:0

I think I remember waitrose having rice and soy milk when I was last in the UK. Don't know about the other chains though. This was also about 2 years ago. I would also try some of the yogurts which are geared towards digestive health. I remember being able to get activia in Europe and in a larger variety of flavors than in the US (the kiwi is great), and I think danactive is also geared to help.
I must also admit that I am a huge fan of dairy products (I also work indirectly with the dairy industry in the US). I am lactose intolerant though, and find that drinking milk makes my GI more active, and therefore more regular when I drink it.0 -
Hey! Welcome to the club! I have personally experienced the "movement" after increasing my daily protein intake. For years I have been loading up on fiber, but that only made me feel bloated and even more constipated. Then I backed off on fruits (I still eat one serving/day) and bread (still eat one slice.day) but kicked it up on protein and that has made a huge difference. But, we are all different. As for the laxatives, Smooth Move tea is really good. Plant based, you drink it at night before bed and the world is all better the next day, if you know what I mean . Also remember to drink lots of water. Good Luck!0

I suffer from the same problem- my weight will go up and my stomach will swell- we have a place called natures pantry and my coworker got some vegetable laxatives it isn't like the ones you get in the store and man did they help me. also i went to gnc and bought the tablets to help regulate me and i saw a huge difference. my doctor has prescribed me medicine and is also trying to refer me out for a colonoscopy which i don't want so i am trying to do any and everything to avoid that. --
i know exactly how you feel. i know alot of females that suffer from this. make sure you are eating true fiber foods not just like the fiber cereal or the fiber one bars you need the real deal thats in the vegetables.

Hi Mrsyac2, Strawberry and blakgarnet, thank you all for your reply I have porridge for breakfast and a tbsp. of flaxseed, an apple and cinnamon all mixed together, it tastes really good and it keeps me full for ages. I also drink about a pint of water in the morning.
I usually do my 90 min. work out in the morning and have a steam bath after then rest up with my whey protein shake and a banana plus another bottle of water :drinker:
My evening meals can be varied, today I didn't feel like cooking today so I just made a quick pan of mushroom soup (was delicious) but tomorrow I have steamed cod, steamed asparagus and wilted baby spinach with a poached egg or two
I usually snack on nuts and dried fruit in the evening but I have just had my teeth done and they are way too sensitive at the moment. but I am quite happy drinking my bottle of water in the evening without snacking.
I have already lost quite a bit but I still have loads to lose, perhaps with a regular bm I will lose more or is it all in the mind?
I will try and get some of those activia yoghurts this week, they are pretty pricey here, going to shop around because sometimes you can buy one get one free at some stores. Shame we don't have a waitrose near me but will try at morrisons on Monday
Thank you all so much for your replies, hope you are enjoying your celebrations :flowerforyou:
P.S. My doc wants me to have a colonoscopy too, I have already had the endoscopy  trying everything else first, I don't want no tube going up that end if I have my way :laugh:0
