Fat. Last place gained=First place lost?

I am a total pear and always gain weight on my hips and thighs first. Now that I've had three kids and gained 50lbs I'm chubby all over. I'm wondering if I'll notice weight loss in my belly/face/arms before I notice it in my lower half. Is it true that the last place fat is stored is the first place for it to leave? I know I've heard this before.

I think this is mostly anecdotal. My fat is almost all stored in the lower abs/hips. The only way to effectivey reduce fat on any part of your body is to focus on overall fat loss.

    Last on, first off ....

The idea of "targeted fat loss" is a myth. Just because you are working the muscle group that lies directly below the problem area does not mean that is where your body is going to turn to find an energy source. The fat broken down to be used as fuel during prolonged exercise can come from anywhere in your body, not just the part that is being worked the most.

I believe that if you are genetically predisposed to put weight on in certain places, such as the hips and butt, those will be the last places where you'll lose and you may never be able to lose all the weight you'd like. In your case, you'll probably lose your post-baby weight first.

I'm not talking about spot reducing, which is a myth: only that in losing fat your body will favor certain areas over others. You will lose weight, but your proportions may remain more or less the same.

I'm not asking about targeting weight loss in any specific area. I know that's impossible. Just curious if the last on=first off thing is true.

I went to a see a nutritionist with my friend. She was seeing the nutritionist I just rode along with her. In the course of the conversation she did say that the fat that is stored closest to the blood vessels will be the fat to go first because it was the fat that was deposited last. This was a nutritionist that worked for Valley Medical Center.
