I started a Biggest Loser competition at work last week and I'm very determined. I've been losing some weight before I've started MFP & long before this challenge started. Here's the problem, yesterday was our first weigh in and I was the SMALLEST LOSER. Not even 1 pound lost. The guys in the competition has lost between 5-11lbs. each. Why?

Maybe because you are following a reasonable program that will result in a lifestyle change you can sustain over the long-term (read "for the rest of your life") instead of some stupid crash diet/deprivation "plan" that will last only as long as the contest?0

You've been amazing, and the transformation you've undergone so far is fabulous. Grex is right, you're in this for the long term! Keep chipper lady0

Thank you very much for your motivation MFP buddies. Its a competition and I think I'm just being too hard on myself. And you guys are definitely right..not lookin only for the next 60 days..it's for the rest of my life and getting it off and keeping it off is definitely what i'm looking forward to.0

That's right. Take part in the contest if you want to take part in it. But don't expect to "win" any prize for rapid weight loss, at least not if you continue your current program. Keep doing what you are doing. It's working for you and, best of all, it's sustainable for the rest of your life, not just the next 60 days.0 -
You have to remember too that guys are generally bigger than girls so you need to look at percentage lost rather than pounds. If you weigh 150 pounds and lose 1.5 pounds that's 1% but if a guy weighs 250 and loses 2.5 pounds it's still only 1%. You are doing it the right way and will continue to keep it off after the contest is over0

Guys seem to have an easier time losing wt because they have more muscle mass which burns more fat. Go easy on yourself and take it one day at a time and forget such silly contests. Two guys I knew got into a contest about losing the most wt. One ended up in the hospital trying to win. He collapsed! Just be you!0

When people first start a weight loss program, they tend to lose more weight the first week because it's mostly water weight and adjusting to the new way of eating/more exercise. If you've already been following a fitness/healthy eating plan, a loss of 0.5 - 2 lbs per week is healthy, normal weight loss. Don't get discouraged.0

I know its a competition and all but with this kind of thing it is best to not compare yourself to others! You and everyone in that competition have different bodies and SW. So just do your best and like everyone else has said stay with it for a lifestyle! Then you'll be the real winner :flowerforyou:0

Oh, you are definitely "In it to win it", alright. You've proven that with your progress to date. You've already won! You are healthier, eating smarter (and therefore better), exercising and just plain LIVING better. Best of all, you can keep this up forever without feeling deprived. Talk about a winner...0 -
