I currently have my lifestyle set at sedentary & am allotted 1200 calories per day. I also recently bought a heart rate monitor. So yesterday & today I was at my parent's house doing home repairs. Yesterday I did a 13 hr workday & the HRM said I burned 5200 cals. Today was an easier day--4 hours 1400 calories. My question is this....When I put that in my diary should I put the calories burned according to the HRM or should I deduct some calories since I would have burned some calories even if I'd done no work yesterday? I don't want to shortchange myself, but I also don't want to overestimate ://

the calories from your HRM should only be the additional cals burned during exercise. Your daily calories already have a deficit so you can lose 2 pounds a week-that is 3500 calories.

If I were you I would change my lifestyle to the higher one as it appears you work very hard. Too few cals will keep you from losing, just as too many will do so.

    Good luck

Yesterday & today are the exception not the rule! My parents, who own a 7 acre ranch w/2 homes on it, live 4 hrs from me & 3 hrs from my brother. For health reasons, they are no longer able to maintain it. The goal is to sell it, but that means catching up on 5+ years of neglect. So this weekend my brother, a friend, & myself prepped & stained the log cabin house, loaded 2 huge trailers with building supplies & heavy equipment that is going to my brother's house, sprayed the weeds, & did as many odd jobs as possible in 36 hrs.

My normal day resembles a desk job & I'll hit the gym for a couple hours. Nothing at all like the last 36 hrs where I was on my feet for about 18 hrs :)
