Is there a benefit to walking or jogging backwards? I see people do this when I've gone on hikes, on the treadmill and on the elliptical. Whats the purpose?

I know I do it before a run but I do it for the purpose of stretching my muscles. Not sure if it has any other benefits.0

That is exactly what it is used for. People that do a lot of trail running go sideways, forward and backwards to switch up the major muscles being used. It is a way of resting while moving.0
