Hello everyone,
My name is Chris. 47, married, father of two AWESOME boys. 6foot 2inches, started last week at 390 lbs. My doctor put me on diet pills to jumpstart my weight loss and I am taking it from there. So far 6 lbs in the first week. My biggest challenge so far has been meeting the caloric intake MFP says I should.
As to why I am here. I used to work as a flight medic (thus the user ID) but i got to big to work safely in Lear Jets and If I want to fly commercial some airlines want me to buy an extra seat. My mom offered to pay for me to accompany her to the Holyland last year but I had to pass. the seats were economy which are only 18 inches wide...That aint happening.

My husband was a paramedic (currently an RN). He kinda wants to fly, but is also over the weight limit. He's not completely serious about flying so he's not in a huge hurry to lose weight. Kinda wish he was ; ) I need to lose about 15 lbs. I joined yesterday. I've lost 2 lbs since yesterday. I don't think that's good (too fast). Anyway, good luck to you. Feel free to add me as a friend.

    Hi Chris!

I really understand what you're going through. I work for an airline and never travel! Im always so worried about fitting in the seats and being uncomfortable, and the poor guy sitting next me. Im tired of worrying about my weight and I've been trying to lose for the last 2 years but have been unsucessful. I lost about 40 lbs but then gained 10 back and havent been able to lose anything more. I have tried everything out there, medical and OTC. I have decided to go through with gastric bypass. After many long talks with my dr we decided it was the best option for me. I wish you well on your new journey to a healthier you!!

Amanda, thanks, I am going to do everything I can to avoid gastric bypass. I have a couple of friend who went through it and they have done very well. my biggest concern is the rapid weight loss and my body's ability to shrink my skin with it. I know that's vanity, but it took me 20 years to put on the weight now I am going to take my time losing it. Good luck to you as well.

This is how I approach it! Sometimes I get discouraged that I'm not losing fast enough, but then I remember that it took years to put it on and it might take years to get it off, but I will do it. :)

I had a sleeve Gastrectomy on 3/5. That type of weight loss surgery, the loss is a bit slower than the standard 'bypass', the Roux en Y. I've lost around 30 lbs in the last few months, but I'm doing cardio, aquafit and Jillian Michaels too, so I don't get so flabby.

I'm not condoning surgery for anyone, as I'm not a DR, but there are different types of surgeries out there :)
