Dry body brushing - do you do it?

it has been suggested that I dry body brush to improve my lymphatic system, thereby boosting my imune system and reducing water retention. As an added bonus it is supposed to get rid of celulite! Have you or anybody you know tried it? what results?

I do it! I love how it makes my skin feel, and when my entire family had the flu, i had been dry brushing for a couple weeks and I didn't get it. I think it really helps the immune system and of course skin exfoliating. I can't speak for cellulite, I haven't paid attention.

I eat healthy and drink a lot of water and exercise. I haven't had so much as a cold in 10 years and I don't body brush. If it makes your skin feel good and you enjoy it, do it. But use some common sense about the benefits of it.

As far as helping cellulite, I don't see how that's possible. Cellulite is caused by a lack of collagen. Losing weight will reduce the appearance of it and getting a lot of vitamin C can help retain and rebuild collagen. Rubbing yourself on the outside wouldn't have any effect as cellulite is not actually fat that needs to be broken up.

I body brush every day, the condition of my skin has greatly improved over the last six weeks. If it is down to this solely or in addition to my increased water intake I am unsure. Some of the benefits stolen from a website.....

The Benefits Of Dry Skin Brushing

    • Dry skin brushing helps to shed dead skin cells, which can help improve skin texture and cell renewal.

    • Dry skin brushing increases circulation to skin, encouraging your body’s discharge of metabolic wastes, which greatly aids the lymphatic drainage of the entire body. When the body rids itself of toxins, it is able to run more efficiently in all areas.

    • Dry skin brushing also helps to tighten the skin because it increases the flow of blood. Increasing the circulation to the skin can also help lessen the appearance of cellulite.

    • Dry skin brushing stimulates the lymph canals to drain toxic mucoid matter into the colon, thereby purifying the entire system. This enables the lymph to perform its house-cleaning duties by keeping the blood and other vital tissues detoxified. After several days of dry brushing, you may notice the gelatinous mucoid material in your stools.

    • Dry skin brushing helps with muscle tone and more even distribution of fat deposits.

    • Dry skin brushing also rejuvenates the nervous system by stimulating nerve endings in the skin.

    • Dry skin brushing helps your skin to absorb nutrients by eliminating clogged pores. Healthy, breathing skin contributes to overall body health.

    • Individuals who sit at a computer screen all day long will particularly take pleasure in the benefits of skin brushing. People who have inactive lifestyles or jobs usually experience stiff and sore necks and shoulders that reach even into their arms and down their spines and into their lower backs. Increased blood flow begins entering the areas brushed and you will experience an increase in electromagnetic energy that permits you to feel energized and invigorated.

    • LADIES—Cellulite is toxic. Cellulite is toxic materials that are accumulated in your body’s fat cells as they are unable to be eliminated. So, rather than liposuction surgery, how about utilizing the “dry skin brushing” techniques coupled with an alkaline diet program and a great exercising routine. It will break down the unwelcome toxic body deposits and send them scurrying out of your body through the elimination channels we discussed above.

I have a brush from the body shop which has natural bristles. I start from the soles of my feet and brush up in sweeping movements towards my heart. I do my entire body this way from feet to neck, always brush towards your heart

    Understanding Cellulite
Collagen is a fibrous tissue that connects your skin to underlying muscle, according to the Mayo Clinic. A layer of fat sits between your muscle and skin, in close association with collagen. Alterations in the structure of collagen fiber can allow fat cells to bulge through and press against your skin, creating the uneven surface that is the hallmark of cellulite. Since everyone has the fat layer that causes cellulite, the condition can appear in any individual, regardless of body weight. Depending on your personal circumstances, the presence of cellulite may cause minor or significant changes in your skin's appearance.

I dry brush most days before my shower. (It's the only way I can remember to it. I don't know how much it helps with health or anything because I got a horrible sinus infection followed by a severe case of bronchitis. But now that I have a better idea of how I'm supposed to do it it might work better. I also try to use a really good sugar or salt scuba once or twice a week to keep my skin soft and smooth. I follow it with a body butter. Just make sure you clean the bottom of the tub afterwards or the next person will have a slip and slide shower lol. I'm currently using a dead sea salt scrub and it makes my skin feel incredible. But I do like using the body brush. Whether it does all it claims it does feel good and it totally softens your skin.

Well, you posted a bunch of stuff that's simply untrue and called it fact. Not an idiot, but do some research with a more, um, reliable source than a spa trying to sell you something.

Cellulite is not the presence of toxins, it is the absence of collagen.

As I said in my post that was stolen from a website and was some of the benefits it was supposed to have. other people plus myself have spoken about the benefits we have seen ourselves, surely that is not to be dismissed by the amusement of others.

But have you also changed other things about your lifestyle? Or do you eat crap, not exercise and just body brush? Why would you contribute positive changes to body brushing if you've been doing other things?

The fact that what you posted is completely bogus is enough to dismiss it. Like I said, not so much as a cold in 10 years WITHOUT body brushing. I just lead a healthy lifestyle.

(Although it does make sense that it would help smooth skin and if you enjoy it, it isn't going to harm you, so do what you want.)

I love how people come in to posts just to crap on others opinions. *lol* Seriously, if you don't believe it does anything, don't do it...c'est la vie.

I've tried it and wasn't consistent with it so I really can't say if it works or not lol
  • I do it on my legs because it helps get rid of the dead skin cells before I get in the shower and shave.
Dry brush - exfoliate with a scrub - shave. Makes a much smoother shave!

Well, I've just started to do it. It feels nice and invigorating. The person who recommended it to me said it got rid of her swollen ankles. It cannot do any harm, so I will let you know if it does me some good. FYI its the only thing I'm changing at the moment, diet is staying the same.
I've had swollen lymph nodes behind my ears for over a year - so that's my test, if they go down, it works! Watch this space..... :flowerforyou:

Yes I do it pretty much every day - I love it! Quite an addictive sensation. I started it because I have really dry skin and it has definitely helped :)

It's the daily threads like this that make me wonder why I haven't started a business where I place a glass of spring water on people's tummies and then let them lay there for an hour while the "osmotic differential" moves toxins down the negative gradient out of their bodies and into the glass. I figure $100 an hour, several clients at a time. I'd probably be made for life.

Dry brushing seemed to help tighten the skin on my stomach back up after I had my son. And it was definitely not weight loss that tightened the skin on my stomach - I was one of those people for whom breastfeeding was a very effective diet, so at that time I was a size 0 with a droopy belly! I'm now working to get back to the same weight I was then.

It's like a massage - it feels good. It hurts nothing. In fact, if you have dry, troubled skin, it can really help.

It's not going to make you thin or cure cancer, but have at it :drinker:

My brush is not just a brush, it's a Verticoli. Hand made in Italy, they carve it out of illegal whale bone. They only make eleven of them a year. This one cost me twelve thousand dollars, or thirty million lira. Perfectly balanced, low drag, minimal torque. Hey, help yourself to the mane and tail all you want, but don't even look at the Verticoli because I will knock your block off. No exaggeration, I could not love a human baby as much as I love this brush.

I do it, just for exfoliation and it feels good. I don't think it does anything for cellulite or your lymphatic system... Sadly I can't afford a Verticoli, I just have a standard wooden brush.
