I have only started doing this for about a week, so I'm curious to see some answers as well.0

That is what I do. No to any extreme like 1000 one day and 2000 another. I was tired of the same amount of calories everyday game so now I look at the week as a whole. I works great for me. I am down 13 lb and slowly loosing a few more. (I want to go slow)
I don't feel deprived and I am able to eat more on the weekends If I want to.0 -

I just started the zig zag or calorie cycling a week ago. I lost a few pounds in first few days of getting back on MFP. Then despite staying under my calorie goal and exercising 5-6 days a week, I was losing nothing. Then it appears to be working well with the day to day change in calories. Time will tell, but I lost 1.7 lbs this week felt good!0
