Hi,
I am a newbie, looking for any recipes or advice on "make your own" protein smoothies or shakes. I am trying to incorporate lots of veggies into my new "eating" lifestyle and i think a smoothie would be a great snack or lunch depending on my day. My days are super busy, I work full time, have a hubby who is back in school, a five year old,and two year old twins! Life is hectic.... hence the weight gain.
Thanks everyone!
Like I said, I'm a newbie, so add me if you want a super cool buddy!

For breakfast I usually do a smoothie made of EAS vanilla whey protein, 1 c. skim milk, 1/2 c. nonfat plain greek yogurt, 1 c. fresh baby spinach and a frozen banana. You can't taste the spinach at all and it's a good way to add some extra veggies! You can add any other fresh or frozen fruit in there depending on what you like...peanut butter is a good way to add some extra protein esp if you're using it as a meal replacement.0

Generally I just drink protein powder, Splenda and water as it is the lowest cals/protein ratio. Although it tastes like crap in my opinion. I LOVE to make protein smoothies calories permitted... Here are some of my recipes
(note I use frozen fruit instead of ice. You can use ice if that's what you prefer!)
Strawnana Smoothie
1 frozen banana
1 cup frozen strawberries
2 scoops strawberry whey protein
(optional calories permitted)
1/3 cup apple juice or Milk
Berry smoothie
1/2 frozen banana
1 cup frozen strawberries
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
2 scoops strawberry whey
(optional calories permitted)
1/3 cup apple juice or milk
Choconana Smoothie
1 frozen banana
Two scoops chocolate whey protein
1/2 cup milk
Squirt or two chocolate syrup
Keep in mind these range 300-500 calories with 50 grams of protein and I make them all in my blender. Experiment with what you like! I'm known to add some PB2 or Peanut Butter as well.0 -
I add 1/2 cup to a cup of chopped kale to almost every smoothie I make, all the time. I usually start with a base of 1 cup of almond milk and just toss in whatever I have.0

I try to do shakes either for breakfast or for dinner if I have consumed a big lunch. In the mornings I like chocolate shakeology mixed with PB2 (defatted peanut butter powder), almond milk and lots of ice. It is very filling and keeps me going until lunch time. I have also used the Special K chocolate protein drinks with PB2, some more water, and ice and that makes a pretty decent shake as well.
My nighttime smoothies are usually fruit ones to satisfy the sweet tooth. Frozen fruit, a couple of tablespoons of Greek yogurt or a Fiber One 50 mini yogurt for creaminess, water, and ice. I tend to buy the large frozen fruit packages like they have at Kroger or Publix. I usually add some Splenda to the smoothies to taste - you can add a sweetener or not depending on your preference.0 -
a nice refresher-
one whole cucumber / 1 lemon / ice / cherry juice
anti oxidant heaven!
meal replacement-
any standard whey protein powder / coconut milk / two spoons of flaxseed powder / 1 x choice green veg
high protein / good fats / vitamins
supplementing your five a day-
kale/brocolli/grapefruit/grapes/lemon juice (1x lemon)/apple/orange
theres got to be at least three of them in one glass

i've been doing
1 cup milk
1 scoop Pure Protein - 100% Whey Protein Powder- Vanilla Cream
1 cup of frozen sliced strawberries
1 sliced banana
handful of ice
i've experimented with adding chopped frozen spinach, but when its frozen seeing the little green flecks is a bit offsetting.0 -

you should try fresh baby spinach instead of frozen because you don't get those flecks and don't get that spinach taste at all0 -
I love my recipe:
Milk - Nonfat (fat free or skim), 1 cup
Chocolate Pb2 - Powdered Peanut Butter, 1 Tablespoons
Bananas - Raw, 1 medium (7" to 7-7/8" long)
Eas - 100% Whey Protein - Chocolate - Improved New! Taste, 2 Scoops (39g)
360-ish calories, 36g of protein and it tastes like a chocolate banana peanut butter milkshake.0 -
Sounds like my receipe but I add almond butter and ground flaxseed. Gives you ectra Omega 3s which are excellent for us.
Enjoy0 -
