I Am No Longer On A Diet

When I first decided that I needed to get off my backside and do something about my weight and general state of unfitness, I approached it grudgingly and with the "I am on a diet" mentality. I viewed it as something I had to do, not as something I wanted to do.

Yes, I wanted to lose the weight, sure. I just didn't want to be on a diet.

Slowly I have come to stop speaking or thinking about being on a diet but now speak and think in terms of living a better, healthier lifestyle. A positive instead of a negative. That really does make a difference.

I am not denying myself anything at all (the very meaning of 'being on a diet'), but instead am giving myself something. I am giving myself a healthier body. I am allowing myself to enjoy exercise. I am treating myself to plenty of nutritious, healthy foods. I am experiencing the joy of learning how to live better.

No, my friends, I am no longer on a diet. I am simply living a healthy, happy, more active lifestyle.

Good lord, you are becoming a spokesperson for healthy! Good for you, my friend. I'm so looking forward to you posting about how to start running again when you have injuries - you're going to have people coming to you for advice!

No spokesperson here LOL. Just writing out my thoughts as it helps motivate myself. Writing (or typing) something out helps me to solidify my thoughts. Always been that way, natural born writer I guess.

    well done!
I do something similar I am not on a diet I am suppoting my dad who is also trying to lose weight and he is not on a diet either he is supporting me. we find this works well for us, it gives us motivation because we don't want to let the other down. we provide each other with constant support and have lost a stone each since the end of february.
I find this mindset a valuable tool in helping me losing weight and and do not feel like I am depriving myself of anything I just make healthier choices which I see as a whole different thing.

    Best wishes

That is a fantastic and motivating way to look at it. Your whole outlook can make or break your efforts. :) As of this minute I will also think of it that way.

Excellent! I never considered myself on a diet even when I first started and needed to lose weight! I knew I had to change my life, I am now even more feeling this way. I just posted how I am not longer using my HRM and while I want to lose 14 more pounds my focus is just on being healthy!!

Have you heard of fat2fitradio? They have a lot of great info for you if not :)

where the heck is the like and share button when you need it... I believe the faster peeps adopt this type of thinking the more successful they are... losing weight is only a direct consequence of a healthier lifestyle - should never be set as the goal :)

    Awesome, awesome, awesome.

    Me too.

I started using MFP because I knew Weight Watchers had me too restricted. Now I have my MFP goal set to lose .5 lbs/week and I feel great, I am running faster and farther than I have in years and I'm very happy. It's not a struggle to choose my food wisely when I'm not restricted to a ridiculously small number of calories.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I get so frustrated with people who refer to me as being on a diet. I'm just smarter than they are. Diet is not in my vocabulary. It is all about living a healthy life. I just took a two week vacation where I lost a pound. It wasn't easy as we ate out for every meal. The best motivator for me was to watch the way others chose thier food. I used to be them. Good luck to you. You have a great attitude going on. Denise

Funny you mention that. I had my lunch inside the truck stop a little while ago and I found myself looking at the food other drivers were eating. Not because I wanted it too, but because I couldn't believe that very shortly past I ate exactly the same way. It amazes me how quickly I have come to view food in a different light once I started to educate myself on it.

I was never a big eater, I just made all the wrong food choices out of sheer ignorance. I honestly just never thought about it. It's food, eat it.
