This week I've been started walking on the treadmill after a long time doing elipitcal on the treadmill is lot harder work but the calories on the machine are a lot less.

If I do 20 k on the elipitical random level 20 (max) (120-125 minutes) the machine says 2310 calories, MFP says 2213-2305 calories.

I have just done 14k on the treadmill 0 elevation (120 minutes) the machine says 1104 calories.

I was doing more elevation earlier in the week but I need to make sure I can do this 5 or 6 times a week.

I'm not sure which option to use on MFP

Stair-treadmill ergometer, general (120 minutes) - 1882 calories

Walking, 4.0 mph, very brisk pace (120 minutes) - 1307 calories

Walking, 4.5 mph, very, very brisk pace (120 minutes) - 1307 calories

I'm feeling a lot fitter apart from my poor feet, just need to know what figures to use so I don't eat too much back.

those calories are innacurate and heavily overestimated I wouldnt worry so much about that I myself never even log my routines because there are far too many variables that the machines and MFP just cannot take into account go by what your body tells you and how you see the change in the mirror

do you enter your weight on the machines at the gym? If so i would go with their information and create your own work out and use that.. Failing that invest in a heart rate monitor for true calculations.

I always go by the machines but i enter my weight etc to get a more accurate reading.

^What Creature said. I really only use the calories burned on the machines and on MFP as an estimation until I get my HRM (heart rate monitor). The machines and MFP seem to work by taking into account averages, they can't tell you what your body is doing 100% accurately. Even the machines at my gym, which ask you to input your weight, still don't take into account height, gender or heart rate. If I were you, I would invest in a HRM with a chest strap and wear that when you work out. That's what I'll be doing when I get paid.

I use the numbers off my hrm or off the treadmilll, there is a 10 cal difference between the two. I too enter my weight the treadmill

I recommend the same. My calories were way out on here.

To give you an example of how off those machines and MFP are ....
On Tuesday I did a VERY light workout on the elliptical. Maybe the effort of a 2 mph walk. After 40 minutes the machine said I burned 440 calories.... entered it into MFP and it told me 419. But do you know what my HRM said......218. Yep the machines and MFP were 200 calories off. A HRM is REALLY the way to go if you are looking for a more accurate personal calorie burn.

    I got a HRM.

I have just done 14k on the treadmill 0 elevation (120 minutes) - 2122 calories.

I'm tempted to put it back on when I walk to work to see how much I burn then.
