Tell me about Rowing

I asked my new personal trainer to show me how to use the rowing machine yesterday and found that I really enjoyed it. I went back to the gym early last night before my deepwater aerobics class specifically for the purpose of spending a little time on the rowing machine.
So, if you row, please tell me what you think is most effective - consistent rowing for a period of time? if so, how long? Or intervals where you work really hard for some period of time and then less strenously? If so, how long should the intervals be?
What areas of your body benefit from rowing on a stationary rowing machine like that (the seat slides and the handlebars are on a pull string)?

The rower really is an all over body work out. I feel it every where when I use my rower, legs, back, abs, arm, chest, butt.... I do both intervals and just a steady pace on mine. It depends on how I'm feeling. I usually do the steady pace when watching TV, and the intervals when I am concentrating on just rowing. I do a level 6 usually 30 rpm when I am doing steady state and that really works me out. I also usually do 30-45 mins or a distance like 10,000.0
