Why I love bicycling to work

At the beginning of the month, I bought a brand new bike and all of the equipment I needed to be a comfortable, safe commuter. I've biked to and from work every day (except for one, when I had to be somewhere quick right after work) since then, and I ABSOLUTELY adore it. Can't get over how much I love it.
Here are my reasons why:
1. My work-out is naturally built into my day. I don't have to make time to go to the gym or for a run or to go through a fitness video.
2. I can easily see the progress I'm making each day. I can bike up hills this week that I had to walk part the way up last week. I'm making it to work faster each day. Each day, my breathing is becoming less labored when I get done with my ride.
3. I feel so great when I get home from work to eat dinner, that, if I want to go to the coffee shop or a friends house, I automatically want to hop on my bike instead of into my car. The other day was the first time ever that I bicycled everywhere I needed/wanted to go for a day, and I'm hoping to do it again and again and again.
4. It's FUN to be a bicycle. It's also so much more calming than being in a car. True, I do need to be very cautious on the busier streets, but my mind feels so clear when I'm biking. In the car, I'm going over this thing I need to do at work, that thing my boyfriend said to me last night, etc., etc. When I'm on my bike, none of that is there. All I'm thinking about is the trip.
5. And most importantly....I gain a lot of street cred amongst the young, hip crowd at the coffee shops, bars, etc.
SOOOOOOOO....all you commuters out there, why do you like bicycling to work?

If I worked outside the home I'd bike commute. My husband does though. His quote on here is ""I burn calories while you burn fossil fuels""
It helps him burn stress off from the day and doesn't bring stress home with home now.0 -
While I don't work outside the home (my boutique is located and run in my home), I own a really nice Trek Hybrid and I too love being a bicyclist. I usually have like four kids with me, the oldest being seven so I try hard to not go anywhere with all four, and do my errands when I have two so can use the trailer.
However, hubby bikes 5 miles to work and five home and he loves it, when it's not boiling hot. He works 4-midnight at the railroad and in the dead of summer, it can get ridiculous up in here if you're trying to ride.
But being a cyclist is pretty cool0
