Ok - I need to do some more exercise but im limited to what I can do because of a problem with my achillies. I've started going out on my bike but im a bit of a fairweather person so haven't been able to get out much because of all the rain we've been getting. I am a member at a gym near my work but to be honest im not a great gym lover, im hoping that will improve when I feel a bit more confident about how I look, have lost some weight etc etc. Do any of you have any low-impact exercise ideas that you would be willing to share with me please :-).
Thanks,
Anita

Ballet, recubant bike, elliptical machine, swimming are all really good high calorie burning low-impact exercises. Some people find yoga works well for them, I found it made my joints worse.0

Punches are good! Standing in one spot and shadow boxing or having someone hold pads for you to punch makes me sweat something chronic! Also swimming is great if you have lower limb pain!0

God how stupid am I, I absolutely forgot about swimming - I will definitely give that a try i think. Some days just walking is difficult enough with the achillies problem but I could definitely manage a swim, just got to find a decent pool now :-)
Thank you x0 -

I definitely go with swimming too Anita, no strain on any joints or muscles, it will give your achilles a good chance to heal xx0 -
Pilates is low impact but a really good workout!!0

I've never tried pilates so I might give that a whirl too, thanks :-)0

When you find a pool, check to see if they do water aerobics classes. They are great fun and you can do all sorts of exercises you wouldn't manage out of the water.0

Anita ~ I've had 3 knee surgeries and I've broken my pelvis. I'm limited as to what I can do also. I LOVE yoga and pilates. Look into Miranda Esmonde-White. (she also broadcasts on PBS) Youtube should have some of her videos too. She's wonderful for stretching.
Also, my newfound workout. (which, bothered my hip at first but, now it's not too bad) HULA HOOPING. OMG - It's bringing out the inner child in me. It took me awhile to get it back but, I love it. Also, youtube hula hooping. There are tons of different options from beginner to learning all the tricks!
Good luck. Friend me if you'd like.0 -
You can get a Trainer from the bike shop for your bike. My husband got me one for my birthday, it attaches to the back wheel and then you can bike indoors! I got a video to go along with it, and I really enjoy doing it. The video is a race video, but they sell all different types and they indicate when to shift gears and stuff to simulate going up hills and things like that.
I burn 600 calories doing the whole race video w/ the warm up, and it takes about an hour to complete. I want to get a more easy going video, as a bike race is pretty intense. They sell some that have you biking through alaska and other beautiful places in the country/world. I love it though, it's perfect for rainy days.0
