Walking / running

I would love to hear from others their success with mainly walking and running as their exerscise regimen. I am a busy Mom with 5 young kids between 9 and twin 2yr olds and the only time I can find to work out is 9PM so I'm starting with walking with girlfriends 4-5 times a week.

    I started the C25K programme on Friday, 13th April of all days. I am not a natural runner and thought I was going to die on Day 1. However, I have pesevered and just four weeks later I can run 8 mins without stopping. Not a marathon I know, but a huge milestone for me. So much so, I created a blog of my training.

    It is great that you are making plans to get out and about and that you are doing it for you. You will enjoy it. I never, EVER, thought I would say I look forward to running but I am (well sort of).

    Walking is my main form of exercise. I walk fast (4.5 miles per hour) and often. About 5-6 times per week. I have lost just under 50lbs. I don't have the money right now to join a gym, so I have found ways to get my exercise in at little to no cost.

    I have a treadmill at home which I use whenever the weather is not good for being outside. I also occasionally do ZUMBA on the Wii. I have a couple different size hand weights and sometimes use them while on the treadmill or doing ZUMBA.

    If walking or running is what you like doing and it works with your lifestyle, I say keep at it. To me this is a lifestyle change, so if it is not something I can do long term, I know I won't stick with it. Walking is definitely something you can do for life.
