Has anyone heard of or been on this diet? I'm going to do it and thought it would be cool to have some opinions on it .

what is it? edit: google is my friend..
The No S Diet, also known as the "Grandma Diet," the "Why Didn't I Think of that Diet," and the "No $ Diet" is a program of systematic moderation I invented for myself that I imagine might work for similarly minded people.
No funny science or calorie accounting involved, just a few simple and mnemonic tricks for building sustainably "good enough" eating habits.
There are just three rules and one exception:
No Snacks
No Sweets
No Seconds
Except (sometimes) on days that start with "S"
That's it.
Do that and you'll probably lose most if not all of your excess weight. For subtle pyschological reasons I go into below, you'll probably start eating better as well as less. And you'll enjoy eating a whole lot more.
How could something this simple possibly work? Precisely because it's simple -- or rather, following the Einsteinian dictum, "as simple as possible, but not simpler." For all its folksy charm, there's a lot of serious, practical wisdom packed into those 14 words. Read on if you need more convincing...0 -
Uh, well, those rules all seem fairly silly.0

I'm not really into "diets" but ask yourself if you could stick the the No S diet forever. I know I couldn't. I need occasional sweets (when they fit into my daily calories...not just on weekends) and sometimes daily snacks. Moderation is key.0

idk what this is ???
thnx Sabine
you posted while i was typing..
ya .. i wouldn't do that diet.. sorry OP
i believe in everything in moderation0 -
Seems kinda pokey to me. So, you can snack on weekends but you can't snack on M-F. You can get seconds on weekends but not on M-F. So, basically you are really good all week and on weekends you can blow the good work you've done? How about everything in moderation. I eat 3 decent meals and 3 snacks a day and I've been able to get off 35 pounds. Everyone needs to find something they can do long term. Diets are just that, short term solutions to a long term problem. Count calories, workout, be accountable. Trust me, if you are patient the weight will come off. Patience is the key. And motivation. And I'm not talking about motivation from others, I'm talking about motivation from yourself.0

I looked at the No S diet website and I'm still not impressed.0

Thanks for all your opinions but I'm giving it a shot. I'm going to modify it and do it on weekends too, but I can have 1 small sweet everyday.0

Good luck....I hope it works for you0

Today is the first day of no s. I had breakfast at 8 and lunch at 1. I'll be eating dinner at 5.0

You really need to let go of the idea that a gimmick will make this all easy.
In point of fact, people around here who are successful have worked their butts off to be "lucky" enough to have a fast metabolism and eat at least 2,000 cals a day. People who have given you advice have lost amazing amounts of weight--over the time it takes--with dedication and hard work.
Today there is a thread going about the gimmick diet you're doing now. Had you done it the MFP way or the "In Place of a Roadmap Way" you likely would have steadily lost 1-2 pounds per week since you started this thread, I'm thinking you might be 25 pounds down now. Maybe 30.
But now you're counting bites. What will you do next?
The reason there's been such a strong reaction to your counting bites thread is that your plan isn't very safe and we are afraid others may try it. On top of that, that sort of thing simply doesn't work.0 -
Counting calories seems so much easier...
Get the food, log to food, see how much food you have for that day, stick to it.
Anything else I call BS on.
Not to mention, as someone who lost 40 pounds on the atkins diet...once you go maintenance it all comes back.

I'm surprised to read all the negative comments about this plan. I started in about 6 weeks ago. I adhere to it religiously ...and don't even find it particularly difficult. The hardest part for me is to not count calories AND plates...so I tend to obsess a little bit too much. I've lost 17 lbs... and though I try to make healthy choices....if circumstances mean eating burgers and fries or pizza or chicken wings....I do! I adhere strictly to no snacks no sweets no seconds....and it works for me. On "s" days...I do have a piece of fudge or a tootsie roll or a bowl of ice cream..... but I pretty much still stick to just 3 "plates" .... I've been very successful on this diet. I do think we could pile plates with 1000 calories and eat them 3 X a day if we were of that mind set...but I don't think anyone who is serious about losing is going to do that. I do have "some" 1000 calorie plates I'm sure if I'm eating out..... but MOST of the time I don't. I'm mindful when I fill my plate of choosing foods that will make me full and satisfied because I know there is no snacking inbetween. Food becomes .... for me... kind of a mental NON issue ...and that works for ME. I don't think about "well I'm going eat this snack at so and so time because I'm starved etc."....my food thoughts are ONLY .... breakfast; lunch; dinner. no other food thoughts0
