Whats the deal? I am on day 5 of p90x and had lost 6 lbs before I started only to gain them again. I don't believe it's muscle (its too soon). I'm not sure. I'm confused. Please tell me its normal, no?

Do I cut back on sodium? More water? I am drinking about 3 liters a day.

Don't worry so much about that weight. My weight goes crazy if Mother Nature even tells me she's got an appointment with me 2 weeks from now. And you've been changing your body for a few days so it could possibly be some muscle under there also.

So keep your measurements handy and remind yourself that changes happen on the inside first that may not be reflected by the scale.

When did you lose the 6 pounds?

    I agree, likely water.

I haven't measured. I should. I was shocked to see all the weight back on the scale. Kind of disappointing, but I know it might be water weight like people say.

Don't worry about it, Tony Horton would never steer you wrong. I'm guessing with all the muscle confusion you're putting yourself through you confused your body into holding some more water

Don't get discouraged. Weigh yourself again on day 10 and tell us what you've got.

Are you eating enough? P90X burns a ton of calories if you "Bring It"!!

Keep in mind when you are weight training,l you will form little tears in your muscles. Your body then stores water to help repair those muscles. This is why they suggest weighing yourself every 30 days, taking pictures and measuring body fat. Also keep in mind this is a fitness program, not a weight loss program. Weight loss is an outcome of it.

BTW, how many calories are you eating?

Oh I am definitely "Bringing It". I feel super happy and energized although soar since I started. I am eating anywhere from 1600-1800 calories a day, although I changed my goal today and MFP suggested that I eat 1500. I will weigh in again in 10 days and let you know how I am doing. I was super excited until I saw that scale today, but I wont let it get me down. Thanks for the support everyone.

Scale weight is unimportant. It is how you look and feel in your clothes that is important.

And I concur with the others, water retention.
  • I agree with PP take measurements and pictures. In 30 (then again at 60 and 90) days you will see a HUGE difference even if you dont see a big drop on the scale.

1500 isnt going to be enough probably. I have yet to run numbers for a person that needed anything less than 1800. So if you arsnt losing at 1600-1800 its quite possible you need 2000+.

Just keep working. You're using different muscles, they need to repair, will hold the water until they don't need as much and you'll drop the weight back off.

I weigh 279 lbs, 5'8.5". I guess I am going to have to play around with calories and see what works.
