Heart rate monitor question

Hey,
Sometimes I workout with a heart rate monitor so I can get a good idea of how many calories I'm burning, but I worry that it's not accurate. Are there any other ways of determining with any accuracy how many calories I can burn during a workout? Like a formula or something?
[The reason I doubt a heart rate monitor accuracy is because I have arrhythmia a lot, palpitations and bradycardia (very low heart rate). Not as a result of being too heavy - I've only been overweight for a couple of years. There's an issue with the nerves that control my heart so I don't think my heart rate is a good indicator of how many calories I'm burning! ]
