Heart Rate

I am a 43 year old female. When working out I like to keep my heart rate between 143 and 153. The problem is that lately it has become difficult to get into my heart rate zone. Its like my heart rate simply refuses to go up. In order to get into my fat burn range, I have to work out extremely hard getting my heart rate into the 180 bpm. then I slow down and it goes into the fat burn zone a short while. Basically, I have to speed up and slow down constantly throughout my workout just to try to keep it in the fat burn zone. My resting heart rate is 72 bpm. Doc says my heart is normal and all is fine. So why is it so difficult to get into fat burn? Any thoughts?

First of all, the fat burning zone is the lower zone. Staying in it is effective only if you're going to work out for hours. For a workout under 60 minutes most people aim to be in the higher intensity aerobic zone for most of the workout.
As for why your heart rate isn't higher, I wouldn' t know. You might want to ask for a stress test. I wouldn't push it for long periods of time.
You could try High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) in which you would work very fast for say, 30 seconds, allow yourself to rest for 30 to 90 seconds and then resume.0
