So I've lost 8.5 pounds in two months, according to the scale. I have about 15-20 more pounds to lose to be my goal weight, and I do a combo of cardio and weight lifting. I feel and look like I am thinner-- my gut is tighter, my arms and thighs have nice definition now from strength training. BUT-- my measurements haven't changed much, if at all, and I am not able to fit into a smaller pants size. What is happening? Should I not worry about it? When is my waist going to lose those inches?

The first 8.5 pounds lost isn't going to make a huge difference on most adult human frames unless you're petite and/or already close to your ideal weight. And because fat is generally lost more or less in the reverse order that it's gained, not a lot of it is likely to come from what the individual identifies as their "problem area" in the beginning. A lot of people who start out heavier than you report having to lose 25 or 30 pounds before they drop a pants size. Don't worry about it. Keep up your good progress and one morning soon you'll wake up to discover that all of your pants are too loose.
