There is a 5k at a nearby town in July. It is for breast cancer, to raise money for wigs and prosthetics and such.
A very good friend has breast cancer. She recently had a double mastectomy. She also had Hodgkins as a teenager and has many residual health issues as a result of the treatments from that.

My question is this; Would it be appropriate to make a shirt and say "For Jenny" or "I Run For Jenny" or something of that nature? I don't want to make it seem like it is "in memorium". Then that brings up another question. I have a friend who died about 3 years ago of breast cancer. We were not super close but we were friends and we went to church together. I was thinking about putting on the shirt, "In memory of Kathy, In honor of Jenny" My main focus though is my living dear friend who has been my friend since Jr high. I have seen her bald in school and now I have seen her at 90 lbs and breastless.

Honest opinions are appreciated. I don't want to embarass or offend anyone.

It shows support, as long is it is in good taste. Of which I am sure it will be. I would see no problem, being a cancer survivor all support and encouragement is always welcome.

That goes for both of your friends.

This reminds me of a regular 5k walk/run that happens over here for Breast Cancer Research called 'race for life'. Everyone has a back sign that says 'I race for life for...' which is similar to your ideas. I think the 'in memory of Kathy, in honor of Jenny' is very succinct and apt without being too 'memorial' like.

Thanks! I was wondering if others had seen something similar done. I really what your race did, that's a great idea.

OMG I have the same question. My soon to be MIL has just been diagnosed with Breast Cancer for the second time in the last 9yrs and we are wanting to do a 5k for her but I had the same worry. She's fought and survived once already and just had a Lumpectomy done the day after Mothers Day and then we found out it had spread to 2 of her 11 Lymphnodes so she now has to go threw Kemo. I met my boyfriend for the first time only 3yrs after she had been diagnosed and the Kemo was still affecting her. I know it's not going to be easy for her again this time around, but I don't want her feeling like we've given up hope on her, but rather, we're supporting her latest fight. Any other phrases that can be used other then "In memory of"? Because she is still here, fighting the fight!
