Beginner Runner. Tips?

I used to run a lot while in JROTC but have been out of shape for some time. Any tips on starting over? I want to be able to run again but just don't know where to start.

Look up couch potato to 5k on the internet, make sure to stretch, and don't over do it.

Remember to go slow. Using a heart rate monitor is really helpful.

Get fitted with comfortable running shoes. The other suggestions are great as well! Have fun!

I was in JROTC, too. :D Good times.

Anyway, I agree with the stretching. A lot. Especially the calves. Good running shoes are a must. And I also agree with C25K. I looove that program. I've kind of slacked off on it recently and started running on my own, but it has definitely helped me, especially when it comes to my breathing. Good tunes also help with the motivation.
  • Just run a slow pace and gain gradually as you get used to it.
Also, stretch before and after the run.
  • Thanks for all the tips! :) Starting the C25K on Monday! :)
