I need help with calorie intake and exercise!

Hi everyone, im getting mixed advice from everyone on this so i need an answer,

ill just explain what i need answered...

My daily intake of calories is about 1200 calories per day, and i go to the gym every day for an hour, averaged out i usually burn 600-700 calories a day when i go, so by the end of the day my net calories is around 600 calories which i know is really low!

So i have asked a few people and they say i need to up to calorie intake a day,
If i move my calorie intake to about 1600-1800 a day, then by the time i go to the gym and burn calories, at the end of the day my net calories will be about 1200.
Is that what i should be doing? or are people telling me the wrong information?

If its the correct infomation, what are good ways to boost my calorie intake when im not usually hungry and am used to only eating 1200 calories not 1600-1800.

sorry that this is so much questions in one i just need it all explained to me, i new to all this exercise stuff!

I would love to hear what people have to say! I have the same problem except my daily calorie intake is around 1400 and when I work out and burn 560 calories, it tells me i'm suppose to have around 1900 calories. What happens if I stick to the 1400 calories. Will my body go into starvation or is it okay? In my setting I have it set to losing 2 pounds weekly. Any advice is appreciated.

You should be eating beck your exercise calories.. MFP is set up with the deficit already built in to your calories goal for the day. If you don't eat your burned calories you're creating a double deficit and not getting enough nutrition for a healthy body. 1200 a day is already very low....please don't risk hurting yourself and your metabolism by undereating.

  • It takes 3500 calories for a pound. So you have to consider how much you burn exercising. Yes you would increase your intake. If you are limited to 1200 a day and your burn 600 a day then you have burned 600 extra calories off so you need to consume 600 extra calories.

Cardio is really irrelevant when it comes to fat-loss, since you need to eat back your calories. The only thing stair climbing helps you do, is climb stairs.

If I can be so bold as to speak for anyone but myself, I believe the general consensus is, when you hit below 1200 calories, your body will go into starvation mode... slowing your metabolism and making it harder to lose weight (if that's the plan). How do you feel when you hit a net of 600 calories? Are you still energized or do you feel wasted? Protein shakes may be a relatively easy way of adding calories without stuffing yourself... but I'm sure others around may/will have better suggestions...
