Loosing weight in the right places

So I don't have that much weight left to loose, I kind of just want to loose a bit more in my belly and tone it. My problem is that in order to lose weight you have to do cardio right? Well with cardio, I've been loosing weight everywhere including my chest. I don't want to keep losing weight on my chest area anymore so what should I do for a workout to just lose weight in my belly area and to tone it?? Thanks!

  • Sorry, you can't target where you're going to lose weight.
  • I actually just posted something similar to this, and much of the responders told me to lessen the cardio a bit, and do more weights and strengthening. It will tone down the belly, and you will at least appear to lose the unwanted tummy chub. I am in the same boat you are, haha. The chub just under the belly button drives me CRAZY!

Then I would suggest heavy weight lifting.

Cardio made me a smaller version of my flabby self but strength training really changed my body shape.

If you look at my avatar, you see my tummy after giving birth to 6 kids

Yeah, sorry hun, you can't spot reduce. Nor is there such this as 'toning'. However, you CAN start strength training, which will change and sculpt your body. You know those women with the tight bodies and fit physique? Most of them strength train. Cardio just makes you skinny fat, really.

Thanks this really helps! And would you guys suggest one of those workout belts to burn belly fat as well? I've heard they work but I'm not sure if their recommendable.

Also, you don't have to do cardio to lose weight. You just have to eat at a deficit. I do cardio a couple times a week if I wanna burn off some extra calories, or if I just feel like it, but I have lost over a stone in just about ten weeks with just eating at a deficit. And not starving myself, either.

They don't look too bad, and it can't hurt, but I would recommend weight lifting as opposed to buying one of those. Benefits other than asthetics, and all that ..

Maybe u could try the supplement CLA...it's. Fatty acid that supposedly assists with loosing fat..specifically belly fat. Worth a try..and there are no side affects or jitters from it.

Humans evolved to carry more fat around the midsection since it doesnt interfere with physical activity (not so much on arms and legs).

The typical order when losing weight: upperbody then lower body then midsection (unfortunately)
Stick with it, you still have more to lose. If you've never done weight lifting, it may be possible to improve your upperbody/lowerbody while still being in a caloric deficit (not true for regular weight lifters though).

Cardio isn't necessary to lose fat, just a calorie deficit. Cardio just allows you to eat more

Hmm, really? I carry more weight on my hips, and I lost firstly from my midsection. My waist went from 36" to 30.5", while my hips have only lost an inch, so I definitely think it depends on your body type.

Sorry forgot to mention the whole woman vs man thing and where they store fat predominently. And also, not everyone loses in that order (based on race, genetics), but that is generally the order for most people

Take into account that those belts are supposed to flex your stomach muscles for you... so you can avoid having to do the dreaded 'crunches.' They're not going to strip any unwanted 'coverage' away.

Several folks have already suggested it... muscle building will give you a prolonged burn, while shaping your body the way you want it. Anything you want to be more... uh.... 'shapely' has muscle underneath. You build on that muscle (within reason, of course), and it should 'accentuate the positive'

You have to eat really well to get a firm tummy. You also must do cardio, and unfortunately the chest area is where many women lose weight first. Try buying some pilates dvds and doing them at home. When I started pilates, I noticed a huge difference in my abs within a few weeks.

I would say men typically store more weight in their bellies and women in their hips and thighs.

No, you don't have to do cardio. As previous posters have mentioned, strength training is the way to go. You can't spot-reduce fat. Just eat at a caloric deficit to lose fat, and strength train to tighten up.
