Caloric expenditure

· Interval skating, (Alternating one minute of hard skating in a tuck position with one minute of easy skating in an upright position) exceeds 450 calories in 30 minutes.

· Running and cycling expend 350 and 360 calories respectively, at a heart rate of 148 beats per minute

· In general, the faster/harder one skates, the faster one burns calories.

I would love to, but blading while walkin a dog terrifies me. I can only imagine the dog cutting me off and tripping me, or running after a squirrel and I'm along for the ride.

Though when we get our dog, I would like to train him to run along side while I bike. I wonder how dangerous that could be....

Yes you have to trainnnnnnnnnnn your dog. First you have to start slow when it is a puppy for the first few months. Walking your dog should be just for walking. No stopping to sniff things, no bathroom time, no nothing!! The puppy should be at you left side at all times. What I use to do while training my dog is stop at the end of the block before crossing I would make her sit then cross (but only when I start to walk). It is just like dog whisperer walking. You are showing your dog who the "pack leader" is. My dog loves the rollerblading! She is a big dog so me running is nothing for her. When I am on the blades she is actually running.

I would think twice about this. Even the best behaved, well trained dog can get startled & take off. My brother learned that lesson the hard way when he decided to take our very well behaved Labrador Retriever for a run while on his skateboard. All was great for along time...until she got startled by the sound of a firetruck siren being turned on nearby & took off in the opposite direction-towards home-& he ended up with road rash & a broken arm :(

I am not too good either... I use to as go all the time when I was a girl. I would love someone to record me bc I probably look like a moron on blades lol. Some days are good some are bad. Yesterday for example was not soo good. I felt very clumsy so I did not venture far from the house :grumble:
