I am quite new to this and am having a little trouble working out calories for some things.

Spaghetti/pasta is the main one. I buy dried pasta/spaghetti and boil to cook do i need to weigh it before i cook it to get the calories or do i cook it first then weigh it. The number of calories is quite different depending which way you do it.

Please could someone tell me the correct way to do this. Thanks

A portion of pasta should be about 75g when dry and then base the colories on that :) x

read the side of the pkt, it will tell you the cals in "dry weight" so weigh the dry pasta (say 75g) and add the cals for that 75g ... obviously it will be heavier once you cook it thats why you have cooked and uncooked food facts ..... if you prefer to weigh after its cooked then weigh it then and add the "cooked weight" from the food facts

When you look it up on the database type in type of pasta , cooked- and it will come up. Ex. spaghetti cooked- came up 1cup portion size. If you know the brand you can try that too.
