Please help! I am allergic to wheat, dairy, oats, and egg products so therefore I can no longer eat them. I do not have trouble figuring out what to have for lunch and dinner but breakfast has been really hard. Is anyone out there allergic to and if so what do you eat???

Wheat and several raw fruits and veggies here for allergies along with limited dairy tollerance...
for breakfast I do Almond Milk Smoothies, 1 cup of frozen fruit or berries with 1 cup of unsweetened Almond milk in the blender with some chocolate syrup for sweetness or I just get the dark chocolate Almond milk and skip the syrup.
Other mornings I do non traditional foods for breakfast. Cold left over chicken is one of my favorites (haven't done that in a while though, usually just the almond milk smoothie)
There are also some breakfast quinoa recipes out there...I have not tried any of them yet but I really like quinoa.
I know that eating with allergies is SO frustrating (there are days when it brings me to tears because most of these are newly discovered and I really miss what I can't have at times!).1 -
Thank you for your post it really means a lot!!! I went grocery shopping with my husband and started bawling in the isle because I couldn't eat anything. I think it will get easier as time goes on but right now it really sucks!!!0

I have celiac. I can eat dairy, but I don't tolerate grains (not even rice). I eat the canned pumpkin for breakfast with some cinnamon. You can do this along with some almond milk in a cup.0

I don't even have food allergies, but that sounds delicious for breakfast! I may do that tomorrow0 -
I've been eating spelt flakes lately for breakfast. (It was on sale last week and cheaper than oatmeal, so I bought it. It's delicious!) Smoothies made with almond milk are also great ideas!0

If you're missing oatmeal (or even if you weren't it's still pretty good) try quinoa "oatmeal" with cinnamon and raisons. Tons of recipes on the net. I also LOVE fruit smoothies, add some protein powder (or silken tofu) to boost the protein and help keep you feeling full longer.0 -

It gets easier!! I promise...my first grocery trip was 4.5 hours. ) I am allergic to soy (which is in everything), pork, peas, carrots, apples, kiwi, pears, tree nuts, and others. I find that it is better to cook things from scratch. I got a bread maker because all breads have soy and I eat what ever for break fast. Somtimes others may think it is weird, but I do what I have to do to get by. Sometimes I have salad for breakfast. Lol. Plus on top of it, I am a very picky eater!
Enjoy Life is a brand I shop a lot. They have the best soy free, dairy free, nut free chocolate chips.

Yup it does get easier but a few weeks ago I went on a day trip with some friends to IKEA and one of my friends also has wheat allergy. Her mom and sister left IKEA ahead of us to find a restaurant to eat at...they went to PANERA BREAD!!! Needless to say My friend and I just looked at each other and BOTH started bawling. (Then we got MAD)0 -
Here's a vegan rice pudding with a few adaptations. I may have to make some today! If I were going to make it a staple of my diet, I would probably substitute the sugar for stevia and add some vegan protein powder (hemp, soy, pea, spirulina) to thicken it and make it more nutritionally robust.
Old Fashioned Rice Pudding
Recipe adapted from Vegan Diner
Makes 4 to 6 servings
2 cups water
1 cup medium grain white rice (such as Cal Rose or sushi rice)
1-1/2 to 2 cups non-dairy milk (Almond, Soy, Coconut)
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract or paste
Ground cinnamon or nutmeg
1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine water and rice and bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove saucepan from heat and let sit, covered, for 5 minutes.
2. Add milk and sugar to cooked rice, stirring well. Return saucepan to stove. Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously, for 15 to 20 minutes or until very thick and creamy. If pudding is too thick, thin with a little more milk until desired consistency. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract or paste. Let rice pudding cool slightly before serving. If desired, sprinkle with ground cinnamon before serving.
Recipe adapted from VEGAN DINER, by Julie Hasson, 2011, Running Press
Pudding Variations:
Almond, Add 1/2 to 1 tsp almond extract in place of the vanilla
Raisin: Simply toss in a handful of raisins when first cooking the rice. This will plump them up nicely (or add in with the “milk”)
Cherry: Toss in a handful of plump dried pitted cherries
Pumpkin: Stir in a little canned pumpkin puree with the “milk”. You’ll want to add pumpkin pie spice too, or ground cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg to taste.
Chai Spice: Substitute unsweetened brewed chai tea as part of the “milk” -maybe 1/2 cup or so (or to taste). You can also add some additional ground spices for extra flavor
Ginger: Stir a handful of finely chopped candied ginger in at the end of cooking (maybe a 1/4 cup or so)0 -
No one said you have to eat breakfast foods for breakfast. I have a wheat/gluten intolerance which comes and goes (crohn's is fun) and I'm also lactose intolerant (for the most part - cheese is a gamble) and it really hasn't been a set-back.
I'm a fan of the following:
-Overcooked Quinoa - turns into the consistency of oatmeal.
-Protein shakes -w/ vegetable protein
-Salads
-Frozen dinners
-Refried Beans w/ dairy free cheese (like Daiya)
-Fruit
-Turkey sandwiches - Udi's makes pretty tasty gluten free bread.
-Other endless options...0 -
I recently discovered why I have been getting sick so frequently. I am sensitive to wheat, soy, dairy, sugar, and cocoa. I guess thats the point where all eating goes out the window! I need major good ideas of foods I can eat because I once was a huge carb and candy eater and I do not know how I am going to replace those cravings. Please Help a struggling sweet toother and carb-avor!0

I don't even have allergy issues and I love sweet quinoa! Raisins are the debil  , lol, but dried cranberries or cherries, fresh berries, brown sugar and/or maple syrup, vanilla, chai spices, nuts, even chocolate chips or peanut butter...the world is your oyster when it comes to what you mix in. You just want to make sure you cook it properly to a consistency that's a bit mushier if you're trying to replicate that oatmeal feeling.
Or try a fancy granola bar? KIND bars come to mind, they should fit your allergy needs (double check your flavors for oats or dairy, but the kinds I buy don't have either).0 -
I do non-traditional breakfasts a lot, too. I honestly don't eat an official breakfast very often (gasp, I know, the horror), I just do coffee in the morning and then have a morning snack at 10 or 11 of fruit and nuts or cheese. But when I do eat breakfast, I'll eat anything at all - definitely doesn't need to be breakfast-y!0

sounds like me.
I mean if breakfast can take over every other meal of the day- at any hour- why can't lunch and dinner do the same thing!!!
Its food discrimination!0 -
Hi! My diet is pretty dairy, egg, and wheat free. You can check out my diary — it's open.0
