    This line rings very true:

"Instead of satisfying our hunger, we are setting ourselves up to crave them again."

How many times have you eaten fast food, gotten full, then a couple of hours later crave even more of the same thing?

The former head of the FDA was on all of the talk shows and news shows a few months ago basically saying that we are all addicted to the sugar and salt that is dumped into snacks, granola bars, fast food, pre packaged meals etc. Basically, you are better off to eat as close to the source as possible and cook your own meals.

I recently listened to the audio version of the book this article was based on (David Kessler's 'The End of Overeating') and it gave me incredible insight into my food cravings and why I have them. The book also gave some good recommendations for overcoming those cravings.

While I didn't like his approach all the time in terms of how to see food (he suggests a somewhat negative approach when suggesting how to approach food), I cannot recommend this book enough to anybody who might wonder why they crave certain foods so much and how they can stop those cravings. For me, just knowing the 'why' behind the cravings has pretty much made my cravings stop.

Well, yea. Fat and sugar taste good. And salt enhances that taste. Whether it's mom and pop restaurant on the side of the road or a McDonalds, fat and carbohydrates are going to taste good together because if they didn't, we wouldn't eat, and then wouldn't survive as a species. It's not really a 'trick'. You won't eat something that doesn't taste good. Even if you make it.
