Anyone else here Type 2 diabetic?

I am having a terrible time balancing food and my sugars. I want to lose weight but not to the point where my net calories are 998-1,150 a day to keep my sugars down. Trying high protein, low carbs but I am worried about putting my body into starvation mode as well. Anyone have any ideas?? I see my doctor Wed. and will find out how much weight I have dropped and will talk to her as well. If I go with too many carbs my sugar goes up past normal and I don't want to have to go back on insulin if I do not have to. Thanks for any suggestion you might have.

I am insulin resistant which is generally right before type 2.
It is difficult but not impossible to keep carbs down. Did your Dr. recommend you see a dietician? If not, you should really go to one. They can offer a lot of good advice when you are first starting out.
Definitely up your protein. MFP sets that way too low. My Dr. recommends 20 grams 4 times a day. Please note that I do not have kidney issues so if your diabetes affects your kidneys ask your Dr. before you go too high. Some days are more of a struggle for me but i have found fill in food for when my calories are too low that I can up the cals with little carbs. My biggest go to are cheese and nuts. I buy my nuts online so I can get them dry roasted and unsalted (I have high blood pressure). 1 oz of nuts is about 160-200 cals (depending on nut) and almost all would be under 5 grams of protein for the serving. The protein is there but it is just a little. Nuts are mostly fat but are the good fat that you want to get.
I have been at this starting my 7th month now. If you have any specific questions I would certainly try to answer them for you if I know the answer...just PM me.0 -
please See a dietitian you'll be surprized how much you really can eat with the right foods. Lean proteins, lots of veggies, water, 2 small fruits a day. The minimum amount of calories per day is 1200. They will teach you all you need to do. I am glad I did it and also my husband went with me.0

I am type 2 aswell, i had not been taking great care of myself until recently. balancing diet and diabetes is tricky. I have been trying to loose weight and keep my glucose level down. i average around 1100 to 1200 calories a day and sometimes i wonder how i was eating 4000 calories a day... i have been consulting a nutrionist and my doctor on foods and diet i suggest you do the same. If you have been tracking your food on MFP then print off about a weeks worth of reports and then take them to your Dr. mine was impressed... they can also tell you where your levels should be so you can customize your settings to match. Good luck0

Hi and welcome. I have been type 2 for several years now. What works best for me is a combo of diet and exercise. I lift weights several mornings each week, walk at least a couple miles every weekday and do early morning trail hikes on the weekend.
I have found that both fat and protein are my friends. Dairy products like cheese, and cottage cheese. Any sort of meat or fish. My wife usually makes some sort of yummy green vegetable or salad for dinner. I average about 2,500 cals per day, usually with less than 80 carbs. Given the choice between focusing on diet and exercise or continuing to shoot insulin several times a day I made the choice for diet and exercise some time back and have no regrets for having done so.
Best wishes on your journey back to health.0
