raw veggies are always a good option for snacks and plenty of bottled water
Also, what my husband and I like to do: take chicken breast, some veggies (we like green beans, summer squash and red potatoes), salt and pepper, some olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Wrap it all up together in heavy duty aluminum foil and throw it in the campfire (make sure you can get it out with tongs lol). In about a half hour you've got one tastey and healthy campfire meal!
Also, swap out the milk chocolate for dark chocolate for the smores!0 -
Take the family fishing and grill the fish that you catch for dinner. If you don't want to do that, just bring chicken breast to cook on the fire. Corn on the cob is very easy to cook with tin foil on a fire. Anything that can be cooked in a pot is easy, beans, veggies. Fruits are easy as well. Just make sure all your food gets put away at night or you will have critters going through your stuff.0

Agree with Jeepy on that one!
Came back from an overnight camping trip Sunday at noon, we had Hamburgers over the fire on Saturday and had brought real cheese (no processed cheese slices) and we also had plenty of fruits and veggies; I also happen to have a stash of healthy granola bars I buy a few boxes of when I run out, brought those along and they made for a tasty snack. If you're going for S'mores, do dark chocolate if not...Marshmallows (100 cals for 4 pieces, less sugar than I've seen in some foods and 1 g of protein per serving) hot dog sausages are good over the fire. You can buy ones which are less processed or in some cases not processed at all and have fun making spider sausages and the like. Also bring plenty of water and if it's pretty humid, bring along a bottle or two of sports drink and water it down to keep electrolytes up if you sweat heavily.
If you're concerned about heat stress or want to pack less in terms of drinks, try going for sports drink powder. For example I have a 3lb tub of Mandarine flavored eLoad Heat Endurance formula, 108 cals per scoop and it's composition of calcium, electrolytes and dextrose/fructose (different kind of carbs than found in the more common Powerade/Gatorade stuff) settles well in the stomach, as well it doesn't have a strong flavor partly due tot he fact that heat stress makes flavors more intense which can cause stomach upset. The advantage of buying powder is that you can portion things out, 1 scoop works for a half-litre of water so put 4 scoops worth in a baggie or container and bring aklong, more room in the travle bag or cooler for food and such0 -
Lots of raw fruits and veggies.
I don't eat meat, so I will take fake sausages. As long as you know portion control (only one!) then they are fine. Eating many would be bad for you. Fill up on fruits and veggies.
Also trail mix!!! (Make your own so you only put good things in it)0 -
BBQ real meat, not hamburgers and fat and filler sausages...Lean beef, lean pork chops, chicken, fish.... Veggies in foil on the bbq and fruit salad for desert... Marshmellows without the biscuits is yummy too...
Nuts, fruit, veggies, rice chips, crackers and babybell light cheese or string cheese for snacks...
Eggs and turkey bacon for breakfast, it will fill you up nicely, and white wine spritzers or light beer....Diet pop if you like that, and lots of water....
Enjoy!0 -
