Newly Determined

Hello,
I've been on and off here for a couple of months but I've actually gained weight. Trying to do this on my own hasn't worked so far and I think I could use some encouragement. I'm 26 and I weighed 229.8 four days ago. I registered to walk a 10k this past Sunday but chickened out. I should be able to do this no worries but the extra weight I've gained this past year and a half (50lbs) puts too much strain on my knees and ankles. I guess not feeling able to do the race and weighing an all time high have made this past week my lowest of lows. It sort of shocked me and I am now determined to lose the weight and get healthy so I don't have to miss out on the things in life that I want.
I have a loving and supportive boyfriend but I think I could use advice from people who understand what it takes when you need to also lose a substantial amount of weight. I like to do things on my own and until today I've enjoyed the anonymity of this site but it hasn't worked on my own so please feel free to add me if you'd like, I know I would appreciate any help.
Thanks!
Chrisilou

Welcome to MFP! It's great to have you! Well, you just made the first step which is great! :)
I know a lot of people on here like to make mini goals in weight loss. Don't think of the total amount, but divide it up into smaller amounts. Congratulations! You will make it happen!!! :)
It's fun to also look at the before and afters. Very motivating! Good luck to you! :)
  • Losing weight is no easy task. So when I came across this place, I instantly fell in love. You get soo much amazing support and advice from people who have lost their own weight. Stick with losing weight, you will be so excited in the end.

I'm glad to hear you have a supportive boyfriend. Mine is too! So we make plans to go on walks together in the evenings and weekends. Not only is it great exercise for the both of you, but a great bonding time as well for your relationship. Before you know it you will be walking so far you will be amazed.

    Hang in there, and welcome!
