I read a post on here saying eat to lose. I find it hard to stick to 1200 cals a day so am desperate to know what this means.
I have 17 lbs to lose and wantto know the best way.
I only get about anhour to myself early eveningto exercise so what shall i do and how shall i do it?
Manythanks

If you only have about 17 pounds to lose, 1200 calories is probably not enough food for you. Use google to find a TDEE calculator - this is the amount of food you need to maintain your weight. Subtract approximately 20% of this number, and use that as your calorie allowance for the day. Give it time, too - at least a couple months - and make sure you're doing a strength program of some kind. This should work wonders on the last bit of weight you have to lose.0

It probably means eat 500 calories more and do 700 calories of exercise to compensate, or something along those lines.0

I looked up my tdee and it's 1543 and if I subtract 20% that leaves me at 1234 and I have 10 to go isn't that low my current bar is at 1285 and I have it at sedatary but I wo 6 days a week doing various exercises. Hmmm0

Thanks for the replies so far
This was the original thread below.I love to hear that more & more people are "getting it" that eating is good and that dieting does not have to mean starvation. I feel so sad when I see so many people (mostly women it seems) trying to live off 1200 calories a day. It doesn't have to be that way. I proudly announce to anyone willing to listen that I eat anywhere from 2000-2800 calories a day and I'm seeing the lower #s I've ever seen on the scale. Yay for you and yay for more food!0 -

Yes, so basically, once you've calculated your TDEE and BMR (use the links in the group littlepinkhearts posted), you can figure out the appropriate amount of food to eat for your body and fitness level. If you're eating good, wholesome foods, and maintaining a moderate deficit, you will lose weight. You don't have to starve yourself if you understand the science.0 -
to piggyback on misskort...
check this calculator out...
http://www.fitnessfrog.com/calculators/tdee-calculator.html
punch in your stats.... with your 'goal weight' and a sedentary lifestyle. That should give you the bottom line number to drop the weight without any regular exercise. Then play with the numbers based on your workout plans... it'll show you how you need to fuel your body for the best results

I dont cut a percentage. I just eat at my goal weight TDEE. I am losing. Only makes sense to me. Eat at the level where you want to be, and your body will get there. But, I am so much happier where I am now. 1800 cals. PHHHHHFFFFFTTTT.0

The people are great and there is alot of support. I dont exercise much at all and I am losing while eating between 1800 to 2000 a day. I am 5 5", 43 and at 100 kilos so am still very over weight (Goal weight is 65 kilos) . My TDEE is around 2200 -2400 without working out, my BMR is 1750. I am really busy and studying so I need the energy from the calories I eat. I cant afford to be tired , grumpy, or fuzzy headed from losing weight on a large defecit. I am so glad I found this group.0 -
