Hello All!
My name is Evie, and I am a diabetic...
I have struggled with my weight and poor eating habits all my life. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with my daughter 6 years ago. Since then I have ridden the roller coaster of being fanatical, and not giving a hoot. I have been thru the anger, the sadness, and the denial, and most times I continue to live my life as if I didn't have diabetes. The epiphany for me came one day as I watched my child eating dinner, she complained that her stomach hurt even as she continued to shovel it in "because, Mommy, it tastes sooo good..." I realized at that point, that her eating habits were a direct reflection of mine, and it scared me to death. I know what being the "fat kid" feels like, and I don't ever want her to feel that pain and helplessness. So, I have a dr appt today to confess my sins, so to speak, and ask for help getting this diabetes under control, and I am looking to this site for some support in meal planning and encouragement for those days when "not giving a hoot" is the easier answer. Have a great day!

    Welcome to MFP!

I know what you mean. I had gestational diabetes during my last two pregnancies.

And I watched my 3 year old tell me her tummy hurt because it is too full. Wow....her stomach should never hurt because she over ate...she's 3 for pete's sake!

So, I realized that I have a lot of bad eating habits that have been instilled in my children....and, like you, I realized that it was time for a change.

Hope everything works well for you!

    Good luck.
