My personal food epiphany - lettuce instead of buns!

I'm sure many of you do this already, but I have not yet tried it until the other day. I love a good hamburger. Homemade, done on the grill, lean ground beef and topped with lettuce, tomato and extra pickles!

I usually eat it with the bun but I was low on calories so instead I wrapped up the burger in a big crunchy lettuce leaf. I still put on all my delicous toppings and it was so GOOD!

Funny you post this.. It was recently something I was thinking would be a great way to cut carbs, haven't tried it yet.. was thinking it would be good to have with taco's too.. Glad to know it's a good sub.

I don't usually do this at home (I don't know why?!), but at In-N-Out Burger you can order your burger that way - they call it Protein Style, and it comes wrapped in several layers of crunchy lettuce.

try scallop squash ( they look like a flying saucer) cut like a bun and grilled or Zucchinni. the zuchinni you can grill and use like a hot dog bun or scoop out the seed and stuff with meat and veg, bake for 1 hour ( put in a pan you can add water to the bottom) and top with tomatoe sauce. Zuccanoes!
  • I LOVE lettuce wrapped burgers. I actually prefer the lettuce over bread. Glad you finally discovered this for yourself!
