Getting bored at the gym..

Do you ever get tired of being inside? Bored running on the same treadmill, or elliptical, seeing the same four walls.. I have found that it is more pleasing for me to get my cardio workout outside, with more human interaction and fresh air in my face.. It may be riding a bike, walking or jogging but it is always better when you are outside..

The hard part is I wonder if it is okay to do weight training only a few days a week while I enjoy my cardio outside? I have to go to the gym for that because I don't own any equipment at home but is it okay to alternate days or should I always do cardio then just go into the gym after I am done outside?

Suggestions?

your first thoughts sound good to me, alternating strength days with your cardio days, getting outside I think is a better more natural and obviously funner way to get cardio in, I love running by the waterfront or through a forest trail and I feel I get a better runners high than I ever can on a treadmill

It gets too stuffy inside.. I live by a waterfront area, Bay City and my gym is right next to the rail trail and has trails that go across the water and all over, its nice, wooden/paved and once I get done its usually too late to go inside because they close at 10.

weight training a few days a week is fine. alternating days is fine as well. I like to run outside as well. I'm actually able to get thru my runs alot faster outside than on the treadmill. Most times I run outside because I don't feel like getting in my car, driving to the gym, putting my stuff up in a locker and then finally doing my exercising. Sometimes i just don't feel like doing all of that

On my weight training days, should I do a little warm-up before or should I be fine?

Personal preference. I lift big and I only stretch the muscles I'm going to work a little walking from the lockers to the working area. Never had an injury and find a 'warm-up' saps too much of my energy to push personal bests. If you have a history of joint pain or sprains and strains, then I would say warm up. Otherwise, don't bother.

It's best to just keep working out as enjoyable as possible. Bay City is a great area (I grew up not far from there) make the most of what it has to offer.

I always warm up and always stretch, just personal preference.

I also hear it's better to do cardio after strength training, or alternate days. It's not going to hurt if you do cardio first though.

it is a personal preference. I prefer to jog/run/walk for at least 10 mintues to get my heart pumping. It helps me sweat more while weight straining
