Following MFP and GAINING weight...what to expect?

I have been following my diet and exercise plan now for almost a month and a half or so, and the scale hasn't moved too much. But recently, the three or four pounds I had lost right at the beginning are back and I'm up to 130 now. My starting weight was 128 and my goal weight 110 and "fit". Now, I am confused as to what I should be expecting, because I am SURE the reason I am heavier is because of muscle definition. I am very slowly getting more fit. But, I still did really want to be a little lighter...so, am I only going to get heavier as I become more toned and lose the fat, or is it just temporary as I gain muscle and when I lose the fat, I lose some pounds? I would really like to know because I do not like having unrealistic expectations. Can I get fit as keep weight training and also hit my goal weight eventually?

How tall are you? If you're 5'8" then 110 is a crazy goal. If you're 5'2" and small boned, 110 might be achievable.
  • lol no I'm 5'4"
  • But I used to weigh even less, also, I am small-boned (based on wrist measurements) but I do have rather wide set hip bones (big leg gap, even when I'm overweight).

It also depends on what you're eating, have you been eating a lot of carbs or soy or anything?

Unfortunately OP, you have your diary locked with the key, therefore, it is impossible for people to give constructive criticism. If you could open your diary to the public, somebody may be able to help.

The same thing happened to me. I was eating 1200 a day and some of the exercise cals back...plus working out a lot and not losing at all. Then I increased to a standard 1400-1500 a day, regardless of exercise (and I normally burn 500-700 a day...yes I know it puts me in a huge deficit but this is working for me so I really am not interested in following MFP's plan exactly), and paid attention to the macronuitrients...protein, carbs, fat. I Now eat extremely low carb and high lean protein and some fat...about 50%protein-20%carb-30%fat. Now I am losing...finally! Everyone is different but for as long as I can remember, when I eat many carbs I do not lose fat, no matter how many calories I eat or don't eat. I also increased my cardio and started switching it up. I was doing elliptical everyday and when I started walking uphill-sprinting it seemed to give me a big cardio boost. Keep lifting though...it's ok to be gaining the muscle weight because once you figure out how to lose the fat the muscles will be lean and defined. I don't know what you eat, but try going very high protein for 2 weeks within your proper calories.
  • Thanks for the advice so far guys, and it's funny because right after I posted this I let my brother in law look at my diary settings (which was chosen standard by MFP for me) and he said that my carb limit was WAY too high. In fact, he suggested that I get on Atkins for two weeks to stimulate the fat burning. Apparently, although I do get in a ton of protein, my carbs have been too high :/
  • Oh and sorry, I can tell you what I'm going too high in and stuff, that's not a problem, but I'm not making my diary public because I get too much rude comments about how I rarely make my calorie goal. Even though I'm super close to it every day! Some people on here start to act crazy and mean when you're not eating like a man, apparently. But I'm a busy college student and mom and while I eat clean, I would just basically have to be eating ALL day to make 1500 cals.
