New boy from the UK - just hit 40 and too heavy!

I'm fairly sporty; capable of 100+ mile bike rides at reasonable speeds, have done lots of triathlons and, from a distance with all my clothes on, look like i'm in pretty good shape...
But I'm over 100kgs and my 36" trousers are too tight, so I recon I need to shift about 15 kgs.
I have no self control at all, and eat (and drink!) pretty much whatever I can get my hands on, so hopefully this will help shame me into some kind of discipline!!
One question - the calories that this thing works out for exercise seem really high to me, should I go with what my heart-rate thing tells me or stick with what the site comes up with?
