Where Are All of the Nursing Jobs?

I am looking for work as an RN, but there aren't many jobs here in Michigan. I know that sounds funny because you always hear about these upcoming shortages of nurses! Are there a lot of jobs in your state? I have thought about relocating, just to find a job. I should add that I am a new nurse. I took my boards in August, I had a baby in December and started my first job in January. I worked at a skilled nursing facility for 3 months and decided to leave there for many reasons. I don't NEED to work. My husband supports us on his income, but I didn't bust my butt through school, with two kids and a household to run, to not use my degree. I am itching to start my career, but the lack of jobs around here is discouraging! Thanks for any replies! :flowerforyou:

I have several friends who have either their LVN, Associate RN, or Bachelor RN, and none of them have ever had a problem getting a job, straight out of college and beyond. My friend worked in Cardio Telemetry for 1.5 year, then on to MICU for 2 years, and she just now got a job as a Hospice Case Manager. I live in Southeast Texas, and nursing is a pretty booming business here! lol

Michigan is kind of bleak, employment wise, but otherwise a GREAT place to live. I love going fishing up there and all the fun outdoors stuff there is to do. Just no jobs.

Pack up the fam and come down to Indianapolis. Lot's of nursing jobs. You might also try Ft Wayne, as they have a hospital on every corner it seems.

Good luck in your job hunt. I have a friend in Richmond IN that drives to Indy to work as a cardiac care RN (90 miles one way). He comes in on Thursday afternoon....works until Sunday night...goes back home. Hospital even puts him up.

    Come south.

I agree on Texas. We have tons of nursing jobs.. and other jobs for the whole family especially in our larger cities (DFW, Houston, Austin).

    TONS!

Thanks for all of your replies! The south sounds GREAT! Look at all the southern hospitality just on this thread! I don't hate Michigan, but YES, the jobs are scarce!
