I have been tracking my measurements for awhile and now I have realized that I am not really sure where the hip measurement should be. Most resources say "the widest point of your hips". Is this the widest point if you are facing the mirror or the widest point of your bum? I think I am going to start tracking both measurements, regardless.
Also, I have noticed that my widest point when facing the mirror has fallen (which is good, I think!). It used to be right below my belly button and now it is a few inches lower. Has anyone else noticed this?
Thanks in advance!

it is the BIGGEST measurement around the part of your body that includes your butt
am sure you could google it and find a picture if it is that confusing

The best thing is visit a website that sells clothing and click on their measurement charts. They usually have a graphic of how to measure yourself.
Lands End has a good one for men, women, & children.0 -
The first picture is more accurate... I agree that your hip measurement is the widest part that includes your bum0

I think as long as you have a place picked out that you're measuring constantly it's right0

the widest point. the biggest thing to remember is to make sure ur measuring the same way every time.0

Rude much?
I asked the same question a few months ago. The first time I took my measurement, I noted where it was and I just measure the same place every time.0 -
Wow! I am sorry that the first poster was rude to you...
I didn't know either so I asked a trainer at my gym
He said to stand sideways, naked, look in the mirror, and wrap tape (make sure it is horizontal to the ground) aruond your butt where it sticks out the most. Easy(for me anyway, I have a round butt that I love)

You just measure around for the widest part. It could be closer to your thighs or around your butt. Its kind of weird I think actually cause its not so much a set measurement point like everything else.0

Thank you everyone. I agree with what you are all saying, more or less.0

Um, somebody needs a hug. SHEESH.
I do it where I get the biggest measurement around my butt. Honestly, I've read about a thousand posts/articles/pictures about how to measure bra size/bust and I still think I'm doing it wrong - because every single person tells you to do it a different way. I think that as long as you are doing it the same way every time, you will be able to measure progress, which is the most important thing anyways.0
