Heart rate monitor options for metal allergy?

I was hoping someone may be able to suggest heart rate monitors for those of us with metal allergies. All the ones I am finding (even the watch styles) must have the metal backing pressed to the skin during workouts. I am hoping to find one that I can use despite this, but still be reasonably priced at the same time (under $50 range).

If you want a decent HRM, then you will need to spend over 50.

Polar FT4 is only 60 on amazon, and has both a chest strap and a watch. You don't have to wear the watch on your wrist.. you could hook it to a sports bra or put it on the treadmill and it will still pick up your heart rate as long as you have the chest strap on.

I also believe my Polar FT7 had a plastic back, but my Polar FT60 has a metal back... not sure what the Polar FT4 has.

Two fingers on your Carotid artery and a wall clock with a seconds hand should do the trick :)

It just might come down to my having to do it the old fashioned way, but I'm hoping there are some alternatives out there. :) Thanks for the suggestions so far. I will explore options with Polar, as well. Does anyone else have a solution they can offer?

I have awful, awful metal allergies and the FT4 is just fine. I think the back is stainless steel, which doesn't tend to cause allergic reactions, even with people who are super sensitive (like me).

You could also use the heart rate strip with an ipod or another device that coordinates.

I have a Garmin Forerunner 110 and it's all plastic coated, both the watch and the chest strap.
