Also, cougars are lovely, but dangerous. I've read certain stories of attacks. They are hunters and high on the food chain. Be careful in their territory.0 -
@snowflake954 Oooo, don't you know it. I've had one on the back porch all week long. Yesterday, she came to the front porch and I had the door open with only the screen door as a barrier. I talked to her through the screen and asked her what she was doing. She 'talked' to me and then I shut the door quickly.
The first night, she was pacing on the back porch for hours. I thought it was a man because it was raining. I finally looked and saw the mountain lion. That's what we call them out here. She was tearing down my bird houses, looking for birds. I had some bird seed and she ate all of that. She's really hungry which means she might be sick. The Game and Fish can't hang around during the night but I see her hanging around up on the hillside. She's lonely because she talked to me like a big house cat. I know. I know.
"The cat of many names, it's referred to as the puma, panther, mountain cat, mountain lion, mountain screamer, painter, just to name a few. The cougar has more monikers than almost any other living mammal, 40 in English alone. The reason: The name used depends on location, and there are a lot of those to be had."
If they're old and hanging around humans, they're usually sick.
"Researchers tested 28 mountain lions for disease, and found that nearly half had been exposed to the plague (Yersinia pestis). However, because they usually don't go near humans, these big cats are unlikely to get anyone sick." They live 8-13 years. They'll eat cats, dogs and domestic animals.1 -

"An Ohio woman visiting Yellowstone National Park was gored by a bison and thrown into the air this week after she got too close to the animal, park officials said. She has puncture wounds and other injuries. Her condition is unknown.
The 25-year-old woman from Grove City, Ohio, whose name the National Park Service has not released,
approached a female bison near a boardwalk at Black Sand Basin on Monday morning, according to a news release. The Park located in Wyoming, requires visitors to stay more than 25 yards away from bison, the
woman approached within 10 feet of the animal, park officials said. Two other people also were within 25 yards of the bison, the Park Service said.
When the woman approached the bison at the Black Sand Basin boardwalk, west of the Old Faithful geyser on Memorial Day, the animal charged her."

@snowflake954 Funny, I searched for that gif and it came right up under MFP and my name. Rolling ROFL's. I was gone for almost a year. Even though I deleted threads, they're still out there with every photo I've ever posted.
Now they've been turned into gifs. Nothing has gone missing. Years from now, when all of the critters have been chased out of their habitats, someone can see them when we're all long gone. That's why I don't share much of anything that's personal. The half has not been told and that's the way I'll keep it. So even if this thread was deleted, everything would still be out there. It's not bragging if it's true, there's some cool pix of critters here and they won't be forgotten. Long live the wildlife and the wild hearts that love them.1 -
