If my neighbors own their home, is there a way I can file some kind of formal complaint against them for disturbing our peace and quiet???

Two nights ago, they played their music really loud from about 10:00 til about 6:00 in the morning. Yes, that's right, 6:00am! They were pretty quiet last night, but it's almost 6:00am now and they've been playing their music for about an hour. >:/ This happens quite often, and yes, I've called the cops. I've even asked how to get them to shut the hell up, but was told all I can do is keep calling. Our homes are within arm's reach of each other so we can hear everything when they get loud. I'm tired of losing sleep! And get this, they had the nerve to complain to my mom recently about us being too loud when we open our gate in the morning. LMFAO!

It's not the type of music they play that we have a problem with. It's their lack of respect and consideration for their surrounding neighbors.

What would YOU do??

Does your city have an ordinance about noise? Most have one about no loud noises from about 11 PM until a certain time in the morning. If so, you can report them to the city for violating the ordinance. I have had obnoxious neighbors before, and if talking to them didn't help, I kept the police on speed dial. After a certain time at night, the police really should be able to do more than shrug their shoulders and act like they are powerless to stop it. I would definitely research the rules and ordinances of your city.

I feel for you, nothing erks me more than loud annoying neighbors. Ive had soo many run ins with rude neighbors its a wonder I havent gotten my *kitten* kicked or been arrested. I once lived in a 4 story apartment complex 2 miles from a university. I had neighbors below me AND above me. Some nights I would be stomping my feet below and pounding the ceiling with a broom above at the same time. Nothing worse than disrespectful neighbors. I feel for you. I suggest that you open you gate as loud as you can as early as you can everyday, be as loud as you can when they are trying to rest, just as they are to you when you are trying to rest.

These days, most towns/cities have noise ordinances 24/7 in residential areas. If it's loud and creates a disturbance, you can complain and (usually) a cop will come and tell the offenders to keep it down.

Have you tried talking to them directly? Maybe they will be understanding if you politely ask them to turn it down a bit? If not, I say you bug the police until they are so sick of hearing from you that they finally do something about it.

perhaps a polite knock on the door and explain that you have work in the morning...Failing that...A big brick through their window might just get your point across..

File a written complaint, and take them to court. The judge can fine them $100+

You. Two dozen eggs. Their car.

Okay...no....that would be wrong....but wouldn't it be fun?
  • I would make as much noise during the morning time or whatever time they are sleeping.. If all else fails go the legal route of filing multiple complaints, get proof, etc and take them to court.

LOL @ throwing eggs and bricks! believe me, i would LOVE to! LOL!

one of my brothers actually talked to them not too long ago, but it obviously hasn't worked. i contacted the police department about the noise ordinance, and all they say is for us to keep calling and calling. the more we call, the more the complaints will build up against them and only then, will they be cited or what have you. ugh.

i think it may be time to consider selling our house and moving. lol

This is why I live in the country on 10 acres. I have neighbors, but we are far apart from each other. Plus, if one of them were to piss me off I have guns/rifles, a wood chipper and plenty of places to hide what's left of them.

They obviously have to sleep at some time, so pay them back. If you are at work during the day turn the radio on real loud and leave.

Don't count on the police even knowing what the ordinance is. I learned that when I had rude neighbors and constant noise issues. Try researching it yourself, calling the courthouse maybe, or city hall, to find out what the specific ordinance is.
