So many of us have been on this weight loss journey for a while, trying multiple different diets. What is different this time? What motivates you and fuels your fire to succeed?

I am much more focused this time. I feel like I have the want and desire to do it. I want to feel better about myself and I think for the first time I am doing it for me and not something or someone.

For me, I'm finally learning how to be happy with my body as it is and make myself a healthier person.

In the past I would cut calories with no regards to the awful processed foods I was putting in my body. Now I'm learning to eat fresh, natural foods. Cook everything I eat. And make mini exercise goals to accomplish.

I used to be a competitive swimmer, now I have switched focus to running and am learning how to be a good decent runner. Maybe I'll move to triathalons after that, who knows. All I know is I am constantly changing and vamping up my exercise routine to stick to it.

This time I did not "diet". I cut my calories very minimally - by about 250 a day - which meant I was typically eating 2000+ calories ever day. I didn't eat any diet foods (Lean Cuisines, Snackwells, Bagel-Thins, etc). I focused on portion sizes and being more active throughout my day (not just when I was exercising)

I hit my goal weight back in February and haven't had any trouble maintaining! In past efforts, I probably would be well on my way to regaining everything again by now!

I am focusing on the numbers, measuring calories in and calories out (with BodyBugg) as accurately as possible and monitoring my weight loss against expected results. Previous diets have always been very emotional and highly reactive to the scale. Because the scale doesn't match your activities immediately, I would draw the wrong conclusions and go back and forth and I never felt like I was in control. Now, I have faith that if I create a calorie deficit, I will lose weight...1 pound for about every 3,500 calorie deficit. It is much simpler. There is no failure, I can make any decision I want...I just know and understand the consequence of each decision, as well as, the cumulative effect of my decisions.

This time for me Im enjoying exercise much more, I think because Ive found a friendlier gym, with a much better choice of classes. mfp and putting down everything I eat has made a huge difference.
