Swimming question

I hear stories about people gaining weight from swimming due to building muscle or is the weight gain only temporary and will eventually start to go down? Or will swimming just make me tone up and not lose or gain any weight at all?
I hear so many mixed responses from people so it kind of get's confusing. Some say that swimming is great for weight loss and others say it will tone you up but it won't help you lose weight and then others say that it will make you gain weight.

Does what you eat play a factor into this or is it a genetic thing?

  • If you expend more calories than you eat, you will lose weight.

If you gain a whack of muscle, you can, in theory, gain weight.

A man, 25 or older (past puberty) can put on muscle at a rate of around 5-10lbs per year, under very intensive weight training (not swimming) and with perfect nutrition. A woman, slower than that.

Any person can lose fat at a rate of 50+lbs a year, with careful diet and exercise.

If you have fat to lose, you will never gain muscle faster than you are losing fat, if you are working out and eating healthy.

Swim, if you like it. It's a great exercise. You will lose weight if you eat a careful diet.
