Okay so recently I had some tests run by my doctor... and she said that my sodium is low so she ordered me to stop drinking water and to get some gatorade or powerade (sugar free) or something similar in me. I'm annoyed. I hate those drinks. I've been reading that coconut water or diluted fruit juice with some sea salt added could do the same thing... but I'm annoyed because i like peeing clear. I LIKE MY WATER. grr :grumble:

It can be unhealthy to drink too much water. It definitly affects your electrolyte balance and that is what you doctor is trying to tell you. I'd listen. Peeing clear is not a good thing. It's a sign of overhydration.0

Better to be annoyed then the alternative. Get some salt into you.0

yea i understand that part of it... but it's hard getting a balance because for me because just a few months ago i was severely dehydrated.0

I had that problem before, and I was only drinking my 64oz of water a day. I just had to add more sodium to my diet. Pickles help, if you like them...0

so should i be worried about my salt intake? I don't know... I was tracking it because i didn't want to eat too much, but now, i guess i shouldn't be worried?0

Go to subway once a day. Sodium problem solved!
Also you could cheat and, you know, put salt on your veggies.0 -

lollll this made me laugh XD0 -
I always worried about mine too, but I guess the amount of water I was drinking vs. the amount of sodium I was taking in just didn't work! The water was just flushing it all out, because I wasn't eating much of it to begin with. I was only eating fresh fruits/veggies and lean meats. I have a bland sense of taste, so I don't use much salt ever. The doc didn't like the level my BP dropped to, so he told me to get more salt in, so I could continue drinking enough to stay hydrated. It was a mess.0

If you are low because you cut out too much, then quit cutting it out, you are flushing it out with water! Drink the gator aid for a day or two, and don't worry about your salt intake for now.0

Yep, gotta be careful with over-dehydration. A friend of mine drank to much water one day and started to feel dizzy that night. The next thing you know she is in the hospital, in a coma for 3 days. She woke up and didn't remember passing out, they told her it was because she drank to much water.0

I would seriously follow your Doctor's advice here. Just to put it all into perspective, you can actually die from too little sodium in the body.
You need at least 500 mg per day, end of.0 -

You need sodium!! I ended up in the ICU a few years ago and part if the problem was that my sodium levels were so so low. They were low through illness and nothing I was doing, but it can be a really serious thing.0 -
oh man now i'm getting scared >.< okay okay off to buy gatorade i go....0
