Meals before a 10K

Normally, I run on an empty stomach in the mornings...I usually do about 4 miles. I have a 10K coming up and I have to be at the start line by 6:30AM. What do you recommend an hour or two before running? Anything? A banana? Bagel?
My longer (6.5 mile) runs this week have been in the evening (which I HATE!)...I am so glad my race is in the AM
Also, I eat pretty clean and really dont think I need to do any carb loading for such a short distance...is that accurate? I dont want to go out of my eating routine and get uncomfortable during my race!

I do all my runs and races are on an empty stomach. From 5K to marathon (even one 50K).
No food is needed, I wouldn't mess with your usual routine as you could end up not feeling great out there.
Good luck!0 -
Everyone is different... but for me any running I do over 6 miles, I have half a banana and a peice of toast with 1/2 tblspn peanut butter.
Good luck on you 10K! :drinker:0 -
Don't try anything new on race day! If you normally run empty, go for it. I usually have peanut butter on wheat toast and a banana, but again, that's my normal routine0

You don't need to carb load. Most people I know who run fasted in training do eat the morning of a race and feel it gives them an advantage (I don't run fasted, so can't comment from experience).
I eat oats morning of a run. They give me energy, but don't upset my tum.
If you're going to eat, try it out a few times before your race.0 -
Thanks! I think I will go fasting! I dont want anything to happen on the track! LOL And I am going to eat light tomorrow...no new foods
Thanks!0 -
I'd certainly do a 10k training run in a fasted state (that's probably about 80% of my runs - 5:00AM, out of bed and out the door), not sure if I'd want to race that way though. On race day I'll usually get up a bit earlier and have some toast and peanut butter & a banana but i try eat at least 2 or 3 hrs before the start time - I don't like running when I feel full.
Have fun!0
