Does anyone have this issue? You know what to eat and what to do to lose weight, but when you are making choices, you go the opposite direction? It's almost like rebelling.

I'm a lil bit of a health nut on a good day but it evolved over years. Don't set unrealistic expectations for yourself or your sure to say "I quit, I just can't do this." Instead incorporate those foods you'd like to be eating into your diet slowly and focus more on portions and. Calories. I have friends losing weight on beer & pizza. They just don't get to eat as often as I do. I also start everyday saying "its all about choices and this is a brand new day/new start. Then I proceed to start my oatmeal & egg whites. ANY day that I start right I usually end right as well.

Well, look at WHY you want to lose weight. Do you WANT to lose weight or do you NEED to lose weight? Start there. If you feel like you NEED to lose weight--you probably are rebelling.

When you can start to really feel like you WANT to lose weight instead of needing to--because you want the things that come with it and you feel like deep down, you're totally worth it, it will get easier. Don't beat yourself up over it--really look at it. Really take pause when you're about to blow it and ask yourself what you're feeling and why you're doing this. Face that demon.

I just wanted to add something. You do not have to eat diet food to lose weight. Where diet foods come into play is that by eating lower calorie foods or ones that may be high in fiber your allowing yourself to eat more often, more food and lasting foods that won't have your stomach growling an hour later. The best way to do this is obviously with fiber & healthy fats.

But as said in the previous post from me, concentrate on portions, weighing & measuring your food and count your calories. That's what this website is about. Counting calories.

Everybody does it differently which makes it nice to be able to view someone else's diary to get ideas or suggestions. If you know you can'tt go to bed w/o chocolate cake then eat light all day so you can have chocolate cake. You do have to make some sacrifices or it obviously wouldn't be a diet. It's really not about self control as ppl like to say, it's about choices.

Also, if you have a "trigger food", such as icecream or whatever, that you can't have in the house w/o wanting to eat the whole container, get it out of the house and don't allow anyone else to bring it in your house either. My husband takes my kids out for single serving treat several times a week because it is just a known fact that if you bring that crap in my house, it's going in the garbage. :)

Yeah, I've definitely been there. It's different for everyone but for me it's usually less about cravings and taste and more about the emotions going on around me. This past week I had a 3-day binge because my therapist and I hit a nerve in my appointment. I had to get past the emotions and figure out how to deal with them before I could stop myself from eating.

But again, it's different for everyone. Might be worth it to look at why you want those foods, though.
